Humanitarian Settlement Program - Client Support

HSP Client Support Volunteers meet with clients to provide settlement, orientation, social and cultural support in the initial stages of the client's settlement in Tasmania. It may be for a couple of weeks or even longer, depending on the client needs. Volunteers will work closely with the client’s case manager.

Support may include:

  • Welcome at the Airport on arrival (may be subject to language skills)
  • Feel welcome in Tasmania – this may include welcoming new arrivals at the airport, home visits and helping to develop a local support network
  • Access key services and attend scheduled appointments
  • Link with appropriate social and cultural groups and/or activities and other support networks
  • Support with the local environment and life skills, for example:
    • going to the supermarket
    • using public transport
    • going to TAFE or school

IMPORTANT NOTE: there is no set schedule for this volunteer activity. Dates and times of support is dependent on the arrival dates of new humanitarian entrants. Qualifications Required

  • General Induction Must be Completed
  • National Police Record Check Must be Yes
  • Statutory Declaration Must be Complete
  • Working with Vulnerable People Must be Completed
