Volunteer Recruitment Process

Volunteer Recruitment Process

 

    1. Assess your availability (start date and commitment)
      • A commitment of at least 8 months (mentors, youth mentors, family support volunteers) - begins when the match starts.
      • A commitment of 1 year and 2-3+ drives per week (Volunteer Drivers)
    2. Review our website and information about volunteering, available volunteer roles and recruitment process. 
    3. Attend an information session – offered online several times a year.
    4. Complete the application from the link on our website or request a copy.
      • Applications are accepted from individuals ages 16 and over as Homework Support Volunteers or Childcare Helpers.
      • Applicants must be 18 or older; Mentor, Youth Mentor, Family Support Volunteer, Volunteer Driver
    5. Phone/Video Interview (30-45 mins) is scheduled.
    6. Complete, provide or upload requirements listed below.
    7. In-person Meeting (20-30min) is scheduled to complete required forms and present Photo ID.
      • Forms include Volunteer Agreement, Oath of Confidentiality and CPIN (Child Protection Information Network – Internal database)
    8. Volunteer Orientation & Training
      • Attend an Information Session (on-line, 1 hour)
      • Attend full day training, in-person, 3 times a year (January, May & September)
      • AODA Modules (eLearning, self-guided)
      • Ongoing support and various training provided.
    9. Consideration if FCSGW is a good fit. Volunteer placement will be determined by both the volunteer and the Coordinator of Volunteer Services.
      • Applicant reviews orientation, training, time commitment and mission, vision & values
      • Coordinator of Volunteer Services reviews application and either offers role or declines applicant.
      • Applicant accepts role or declines offer.

Important to Note:

 

  • Volunteer placement will be determined by both the volunteer and the Coordinator of Volunteer Services.
  • If a vehicle will be used as part of the volunteer assignment, we will require the following; 1) Proof of Insurance 2) Photocopy of Valid License 3) Current Driver’s Abstract
