Volunteer Recruitment Process

Volunteer Recruitment Process

 

  1. Assess your availability (start date and commitment)
    • 8 months commitment is requested (Note: due to the sensitive nature of the work, it is important for the children and youth we serve to have consistency and meaningful relationships with volunteers).
  2. Complete the application on our website or request a copy from the Coordinator of Volunteer Services
    • FCSGW accepts applications from any individual ages 16 and over. Only volunteers 18 and over can volunteer in the following positions; Mentor, Youth Mentor, Parent-Aid,  Volunteer Driver
    • FCSGW is committed to a volunteer program that is inclusive and equitable. We welcome volunteers of diverse backgrounds, including Black, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQIA+.

  3. Prescreening Phone/Video Interview (10-20 mins) is scheduled.
  4. Interview (in-person) is scheduled and complete required forms.
    • Generally, between 30 and 45 mins
  5. Complete or provide - Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) 
    • Important Note:  Fees will only be reimbursed for approved volunteers.  Please wait until you are asked before applying for a Police Check 
    • Inform Coordinator of Volunteer Services when PVSC has been received
    • Provide 3 dates/times that work well for your in-person interview.
  6. Complete or provide the following.
    • Send request to your 2 references.  Letter template will be provided by Coordinator of Volunteer Services
    • Resume 
    • CPIN Check – Internal database check (completed by FCSGW)
  7. If accepted as an FCSGW volunteer, attend Volunteer orientation & training.
    • Training takes place 3 times a year.
  8. Ask questions or share concerns. 
  9. Start your volunteer role!

 

Important to Note:

 

  • Volunteer placement will be determined by both the volunteer and the Coordinator of Volunteer Services.
  • If a vehicle will be used as part of the volunteer assignment, we will require the following; 1) Proof of Insurance 2) Photocopy of Valid License 3) Current Driver’s Abstract
