Facilities - Maintenance Worker


Maintenance Volunteers work on WRA’s site. The grounds are used to support local wildlife, programs and house the Administration and Hospital buildings.  Maintenance volunteers allow the Centre to continue to operation at all times, saving dollars in services that can then go directly to care.  All volunteers must provide a Criminal Record Check.



  • Perform regular maintenance duties in accordance with our Annual Maintenance Plan under the Supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator and Hospital Staff.
  • Regular duties may include:
    • Raking leaves and clearing them from enclosures
    • Maintaining pathways
    • Cutting back brush
    • Removing invasive plants
    • Cleaning, repairing and sharpening tools
    • Identifying maintenance needs
    • Performing minor repairs
    • Working with the Maintenance Team on construction projects such as building a table or shed
  • Follow Health & Safety protocol and report unsafe conditions to the Health & Safety Committee
  • Use communication systems in place for identifying and logging tasks
  • Communicate with the Maintenance Coordinator regarding problems, tools, equipment needed


Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Reliability
  • Enjoys routine maintenance tasks
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Good team communication skills
  • "Handy" and able to safely and effectively complete minor repairs
  • Knowledge of how to safely operate power tools
  • Maintenance and gardening experience/knowledge
  • Up-to-date Tetanus Vaccination
  • Certification in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, or fiberglass repair an asset
  • Access to vehicle an asset



Time Requirements:

  • Regular 4-hour weekly shift and minimum commitment of 100-hours
