Treatment Support Volunteers

Treatment support volunteers help staff provide animal health care and nutrition for the animals in our shelter.

Duties

  • Distribute prepared food and medications to cats and dogs
  • Clean and disinfect treatment supplies and equipment
  • Weigh and record animal weights
  • Provide non-medical and medical baths
  • Stock and organize food
  • Verify medical food signs
  • Report medical and behavior observations
  • Collect fecal/urine samples
  • Take out recycling and trash
  • Spot clean cages/kennels as needed
  • Sort paper medicals as needed

Skills Needed

Volunteers must be detailed-oriented and committed to following disease transmission protocols.  This is a physical position, and volunteers must be comfortable walking, bending, lifting, squatting, and handling cats and dogs.  Volunteers must have the ability to follow directions, read, write, and effectively communicate with staff and other volunteers.  Prior medical experience not needed.

Open Shift Time:       

  • Saturdays 2pm-4pm
  • Sundays 2pm-4pm
  • Mondays 2pm-4pm
  • Tuesdays 2pm-4pm
  • Wednesdays 2pm-4pm
  • Fridays 2pm-4pm

Required Training

  • Meet & Greet with Volunteer Coordinator
  • Volunteer Handbook & Waivers – Online Training
  • People Centered Philosophy – Online Training
  • Dog/Cat Animal Training – Online Training
  • Dog/Cat Animal Training – Hands-On with Staff
  • In-Person Training Sessions with Treatment trained staff. Number of sessions TBD.

 

Commitment/Age Requirement

Weekly commitment
Minimum of 6 months commitment required
Must be 18 years of age
