Pet Food Pantry - Pet Food Pantry Assistant

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the St. Augustine Humane Society! We want every pet to have the chance to live happy, healthy lives with their loving families. Our programs and resources are designed to fight against the most common reasons pets are relinquished to shelters. By providing these lifesaving resources to the community, we are able to help reduce the need for animals to enter shelters, helping end needless euthanasia.

What is the Pet Food Pantry Assistant position?

The Pet Food Pantry Assistant is an important part of our Pet Food Pantry. Because the inability to purchase pet food due to economic hardship is one of the main reasons pets are relinquished to shelters, our Pet Food Pantry provides pet food to families who are struggling financially and would otherwise be unable to care for their pets. The Pet Food Pantry Assistant helps distribute food to the clients, ensures proper rotation of pet food to reduce waste, and maintains the cleanliness of the pet food area.

Do I have the qualifications needed to become a Pet Food Pantry Assistant?

The best Pet Food Pantry Assistants are concerned for the wellbeing of animals and want to ensure that every pet stays with their loving families instead of being relinquished to an animal shelter. If you are able to work on your own, have good organizational skills, and are able to communicate with people of various educational, economic, and ethnic backgrounds, you will be an effective Pet Food Pantry Assistant.

How much time must I commit as a Pet Food Pantry Assistant?

One of the main responsibilities of the Pet Food Pantry Assistant is to help incorporate newly donated pet food into our existing stores of food. This means that the Pet Food Pantry Assistant must have a flexible schedule for when donated food arrives. Depending on the amount of food donated, proper sorting and rotation can take a few hours. Apart from receiving food donations, the Pet Food Pantry Assistant should expect to spend a couple hours each week checking bags for issues and rotating the stock.

What are the responsibilities of the Pet Food Pantry Assistant?

  • Receive pet food donations
  • Ensure proper rotation of new food into current stock
  • Ensure that food is being distributed based on expiration date
  • Maintain cleanliness of the pantry and ensure that any damaged or expired pet food is removed
  • Assist with distribution of pet food to clients

Our mission. The St. Augustine Humane Society promotes healthy, responsible, lifelong pet ownership by serving the medical and rehabilitative needs of companion animals in our community. Our programs are designed to strengthen human-pet relationships and reduce the need for pets to enter shelters. Our goal is to ensure all pets have access to quality veterinary care, prevent overpopulation, and prevent animal suffering.
