What do volunteers do?

Dog Day Out

By taking a dog out for a short field trip, you are giving them the opportunity to experience new things. This is great for both their mental and physical health. In addition, you can help us to learn more about their personality, add photos to their pet profile, and help them find the perfect home!

Short-term Volunteering

Try out our volunteer program while fulfilling current shelter needs! This program allows you to sign up immediately and try out our program without formal training or program fees.

This program is ideal for:

  • Seasonal volunteering
  • Meeting class or organization requirements
  • Volunteering while completing general training requirements

Canine Enrichment and Training

Our canine enrichment program ensures our dogs are active, well-socialized, have opportunities for stress relief, and are mentally healthy during their stay at AgHS. Activities could include dog walking, enrichment activities, training, and other tasks.

Canine training volunteers will learn basic and advanced training concepts and apply them during volunteer activities. Educational opportunities are available in person and online.

Feline Enrichment

Volunteers in these activities will be involved in direct feline socialization, basic grooming, and cleaning activities. Our feline enrichment program ensures our cats are active, well-socialized, have opportunities for stress relief, and are mentally healthy during their stay here at the shelter.

Administration

Administrative volunteers help in many different roles including data entry, sorting and filing paperwork and donations, and other vital tasks.

If you are detail oriented and would like to provide excellent customer service to our visitors or if you are looking for a less hands-on way to further our mission, this may be the role for you!

Community Engagement

Volunteers help with many special events throughout the year. You can serve as a Team Lead and help with adoptions, give out information at tabling events, or help at many of our other community engagement opportunities.

Some of our most common events include offsite adoptions at Petsmart and Sterling Subaru, and the national Clear the Shelters event.
