The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

Spending time with a patient, even for short time, can make a huge difference to a patient’s hospital stay – particularly those who may not have many visitors. We are looking for volunteers to support our patients by:

• Under the direction of the nursing staff, identify patient’s who may not have visitors either in the long term or just for the afternoon / evening concerned
• Introduce self to the patient and explain the role of the Patient Support Volunteer
• Ask patient if they would like you to sit and chat with them
• keeping patients company by talking, reading and befriending them
• carrying out short satisfaction surveys so we can analyse trends, celebrate achievements and mend problems (paper or electronic versions are available)
• help patients reach their loved ones through phone or video calls (if you are confident using technology)
