Canines for Therapy Registration - Raleigh


Purpose

The purpose of Canines for Therapy volunteers is to bring joy and light to the community through pet therapy. We currently have pet therapy programs in Raleigh, NC. Recertification is required every 2 years to stay on an active Therapy Team. 

Qualifications

  • Must complete our 7-week therapy certification course in Raleigh.
  • Handler must be at least 10 years of age.
  • Dog must have their Canine Good Citizen certification. 
  • Dogs are not able to be on a raw diet. 

CFS Cost

  • New Teams = $85
    • Includes: Therapy Class, Therapy Manual, Therapy Dog Vest, Membership Letter, Digital ID Card, Background Check, and Volunteer Liability Insurance.
  • Additional Handler = $45
  • Additional Child Handler (Under 18) = $25
  • Existing Handler with New Dog/New Vest = $65
  • Existing Handler with New Dog/Existing Vest = $25
  • Additional payments are made to the instructor.

Next Steps

  1. Complete the Therapy Registration application.
  2. Submit background check information and pay for registration.
  3. Take the 7-week therapy course.
  4. Pass the in-house assessment.
  5. Congratulations!

Please Note

Class participation is required for all handlers who have not previously completed the course. Handlers who have already participated may register with an additional dog and proceed directly to the assessment without retaking the class.

If the handler and new dog are unsuccessful after two assessment attempts, both will be required to complete the class before proceeding.

All teams must submit the required documentation for the new dog.
