Dog Walker Level 1

The objective of our Dog Walking level 1 volunteers is to improve the lives of SPCA Tampa Bay canines by providing exercise and socialization.

Qualifications:                 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Knowledge of standard SPCA policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle high energy medium and large sized dogs
  • Ability to work in the outside elements and high noise level areas
  • Ability to recognize canine body language
  • Ability to communicate and work well with the public, staff and other volunteers
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Pay a nonrefundable amount of $20 for volunteer gear  

Responsibilities:

  • Socialize, exercise, and play with specific canines
  • Record necessary information on dog walking boards  
  • Record and report unusual observations to Behavior and Training Manager
  • Professionally represent SPCA Tampa Bay at all times 

Training:

  • Complete telephone meet and greet with Volunteer Program Manager
  • Complete onsite training with Behavior and Training Manager
  • Complete onsite mentor session with a SPCA TB mentor

Physical Demands:

  • Walk and stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds 

Time Commitment:       

  • 1 shift per week
  • Tuesdays-Fridays: 10:00 am-1:00 pm, 1:00-4:00 pm and 4:00-7:00 pm
  • Saturdays-Mondays: 10:00 am-1:00 pm and 2:00-5:00 pm
