Transfer Driver Volunteer
The objective of our Transfer Driver Volunteers is to safely and successfully transport animals to and from SPCA Tampa Bay.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have 2 years of driving experience
- Must be able to safely drive in all weather conditions
- Must pass a driving background screening
- Valid driver’s license, insurance and clean driving record
- Animal handling experience preferred
- Be comfortable with all different animal species
- Knowledge of standard SPCA policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate and work well with the public, staff and other volunteers
- Pay a nonrefundable amount of $10 for volunteer gear
Responsibilities:
- Be available to safely transport animals to and from our shelter
- Maintain communication with supervisor during pick-up/drop-off process
- Maintain vehicle and equipment in good mechanical, sanitary, and safe conditions
- Professionally represent SPCA Tampa Bay at all times
Training:
- Complete telephone meet and greet with Volunteer Program Manager
- Complete onsite meeting with Director of Veterinary Services
- Complete and pass driving background screening
- If limited or no animal handling exerperience: Complete handling training with the Medical Manager or Director of Veterinary Services
- Completes training with Director of Veterinary Services prior to working alone or with another volunteer.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to drive long distances
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift or move up to 30 pounds
Time Commitment:
- Schedule and time commitments will vary depending on transfer needs
- Transfer locations vary. Can be up to 4.5 hours one way depending on transport needs
