Summer Camp Counselor Assistant Position Overview

- Ages of Children Volunteers Support:
- Leafhoppers (4-5 years old)
- Cicadas (6-7 years old)
- Dragonflies (8-10 years old)
- Mantids (11-13 years old)
- Commitment: Minimum one full week commitment
- Shifts: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday (except statutory holidays)
- Age requirements: 15 years of age or older
- Location: High Park Nature Centre, 375 Colborne Lodge Drive, Toronto
What You'll Be Doing
- Role model respect and appreciation for the natural world;
- Contribute to program delivery within your comfort level and ability;
- Encourage participation in games and activities;
- Assist in supervising children to help keep them safe and comfortable;
- Help maintain the cleanliness of the Nature Centre;
- New volunteers must attend an orientation session prior to the start of Summer Camp.
Qualities of a Success Volunteer at the Nature Centre
- Enthusiasm!;
- Ability and/or desire to connect with kids;
- Desire to learn about and connect with nature;
- Ability to be outside in all weather conditions (e.g. rain, sunshine, extreme heat);
- Ability to commit to one full week of camp Monday-Friday;
- Must be 15 years of age or older;
- Valid police record check for individuals 18 years and older.
Please note: Some of our programs may be physically demanding including lifting/carrying programs materials up to 30lbs, longer hikes on uneven terrain, sitting/standing/running for extended periods of time, etc. If you require physical accommodations, please reach out.
Commitment
Summer Camp Counselor Assistant positions require a week-long, Monday to Friday commitment from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (37.5 hours). Volunteers who can commit to a full week of camp are preferred.
