TRAIL CARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 

 

Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park - Trail Maintenance & Brushing Projects

Join us for some general trail maintenance on a selection of trails in the Bow and Kananaskis valley areas. These trail days will include tasks such as general trail maintenance activities such as brushing & limbing work to improve sightlines and minor trail tread and drainage work repairs, as well as some trail de-commissioning work.

Dates:
June 10 - Mt Lady MacDonald Trail. The re-routing of the official Lady MacDonald access trail has been completed and we will be rehabilitating unofficial trails in the wildlife corridor. This is a moderate level activity, mainly moving brush and logs.
August 21 - Quaite Creek trail - brushing/pruning
September 11 - Stoney Trail - brushing/pruning
September 18 - Bow Corridor Trail - brushing/pruning
October 9, 16, 23 - Trail(s) TBC
November 7 - Mt Lady MacDonald/Cougar Creek - Building a new short connector trail and reclamation work on the old Lady Mac trail. This is a moderate level activity.
 

Meeting time:9:00am (work day: 9:00am-3:00pm) 

 

Meeting location: will be confirmed in trail day reminder sent the day prior. 

 

What to expect: The level of effort will range from light to moderate and could include:

>building a new section of trail (digging, raking of earth and rocks)

>using hoes, rakes and Pulaskis to dig/till or otherwise remove ruts in seasonal wet/muddy sections

>packing and raking smooth finished tread on damaged tread sections

>brushing and limbing hazard trees/bushes to improve sightlines and safety

>rock work to move and adjust rocks on various sections of trail.

 

REMINDER: a Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle at provincial park and public lands sites in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.  

 

Volunteer Agreement Form: You will need to fill out this volunteer agreement waiver prior to working on a trail care event. Please visit the link above to fill out this form ASAP prior to the trail day. 

 

HOW TO SIGN UP 

  • If you are an existing volunteer, login to your profile (top right of this page); once you're signed in, scroll down to the bottom of this page and look for the SIGN UP button for the activity and date you'd like to volunteer for.
  • If you're new to volunteering with FKC, you'll first need to fill out a volunteer application.
  • Sign up closes at noon the day prior to the event. Confirmed sign-ups will receive a reminder email with additional information on what to bring and meeting time/place.
