TRAIL CARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 

 

Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park - Trail Maintenance & Brushing Projects

Join us for some general trail maintenance on a selection of trails in the Bow and Kananaskis valley areas. These trail days will include tasks such as general trail maintenance activities such as brushing & limbing work to improve sightlines and minor trail tread and drainage work repairs, as well as some trail de-commissioning work.

Dates:
April 10 & 11: fireguard work (raking/clearing debris, trail sweeps) - Johnny's, Meander & Montane trails
May 10: Bow Corridor Trans Canada Trail - Trail Sweep
June 11: General Maintenance on Cloudline
September 17 & 24: Jewel Bay Backcountry Campground and Stoney Trail - Brushing the backcountry campground and Stoney Trail. 
September 27th: McGillivray Canyon. HIKE. We will be working with local climber's groups to improve and formalize the McGillivray Canyon approach trail.
October 1: Bow Corridor Trail (West of Heart Creek) - Brushing and pruning on the Bow Corridor TCT Trail
October 3: Wasootch Connector - Brushing the connector from the Baldy Pass and Wasootch Day Use area.
October 8: Brushing and pruning on Bill Milne trail. Meet at Ribbon Creek Day Use Area. 
October 17th: Big Choss: HIKE. Trail improvements: brushing, pruning, and trail repairs. We will be working with local climber's groups to improve and formalize the Big Choss bouldering trails.
 

Meeting time:9:00am (work day: 9:00am-3:00pm) 

 

Meeting location: will be confirmed in trail day reminder sent the day prior. 

 

What to expect: The level of effort will range from light to moderate and could include:

>building a new section of trail (digging, raking of earth and rocks)

>using hoes, rakes and Pulaskis to dig/till or otherwise remove ruts in seasonal wet/muddy sections

>packing and raking smooth finished tread on damaged tread sections

>brushing and limbing hazard trees/bushes to improve sightlines and safety

>rock work to move and adjust rocks on various sections of trail.

 

Volunteer Agreement Form: You will need to fill out this volunteer agreement waiver prior to working on a trail care event. Please visit the link above to fill out this form ASAP prior to the trail day.

  • If you are an existing volunteer, click here to login to your profile; once you're signed in, click the Opportunities tab, click on the Activity you'd like to sign up for and then scroll down to the bottom of this page and look for the SIGN UP button for the date(s) you'd like to volunteer for.
  • If you're new to volunteering with FKC, you'll first need to fill out a volunteer application.
  • Sign up closes 48 hours prior to the event. Confirmed sign-ups will receive a reminder email with additional information on what to bring and meeting time/place.
