WELCOME! To the EXETER HERITAGE CHAMPIONS: a flexible volunteering programme based across Heritage sites in the city of Exeter, allowing you to try your hand at volunteering at a variety of venues to meet your needs and fit in with your lifestyle.

 

Learn about the Heritage of the city, make a contribution to your local community while learning and practicing new skills and having fun with others!

Volunteering activities include:

  • Heritage cleaning and book cleaning,
  • general conservation of artefacts,
  • gardening,
  • silver and brass polishing,
  • supporting historical events and re-enactments,
  • shadowing education and family events,
  • public engagement and stewarding at festivals and events,
  • front-of-house and customer-facing roles.

 

You could…

  • access training in a variety of transferable skills such as public engagement, conservation, inclusion and diversity, safeguarding and first aid
  • get inductions and exclusive 'behind-the-scenes' access to venues across the city such as Devon and Exeter Institution, Tuckers Hall, Historic Guildhall, Custom House and St. Nicholas Priory
  • make friends in a diverse group of volunteers from across the city who work together in a social and supportive atmosphere
  • get to choose what shifts you want to do to fit around work, study and other plans.

Exeter Heritage Champions are currently recruiting for volunteer opportunities from Spring 2025

Exeter Heritage Champions is a project initiated by Exeter Heritage Partnership to develop a collaborative volunteering programme across a number of the city’s heritage organisations: Exeter Historic Buildings Trust (St Nicholas Priory), Exeter Cathedral, Exeter Canal & Quay Trust (Custom House), Devon & Exeter Institution, RAMM, South West Heritage Trust, Tucker’s Hall and the Historic Guildhall.
