Marketing Volunteer
Looking to get stuck into something practical? Use your hands-on skills to make a huge impact on culture!
As behind the scenes volunteer you will have the opportunity to support all aspects of our museum to ensure that it looks fantastic. You could find yourself using your practical skills to help care of our collections, prepare the museum for events and programming and any other hands-on work needed onsite. Full training for all aspects of the role will be provided.
What to expect :
Our volunteer roles are designed to be tailored around you, your interests and your skills. Some of the things you could be up to include:
- Creating and scheduling content for the museum’s social media channels.
- Helping to promote exhibitions, events, activities and other museum programmes.
- Taking photographs and short videos for use across social media and other marketing materials.
- Researching stories, objects and people from our collections to help create engaging content.
- Helping to develop creative campaigns, competitions, trails and audience engagement activities.
- Writing or contributing to social media posts, website content, newsletters and other promotional material.
- Keeping up to date with relevant social media trends and suggesting new ideas for reaching and engaging audiences.
- Helping to capture what’s happening at the museum through photography, video and behind-the-scenes content.
- Working alongside the museum team to develop new ways of sharing our collections and stories with our audiences.
- Supporting other volunteers and staff with marketing and communications activities where appropriate.
This is of course not exhaustive as your volunteering will evolve around you and your skillsets. Full training, guidance and support will be provided.
Skills and Experience :
Ideally, to be comfortable in this volunteer role we think you will need to have:
- An enthusiasm for museums, heritage, history, culture or storytelling – Essential.
- An interest in social media, marketing and engaging with audiences – Essential.
- A willingness to get creative and contribute ideas – Essential.
- An ability to work independently while following clear guidance and agreed processes – Essential.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence using social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
- An eye for interesting stories, images and opportunities for engaging content.
- Basic photography, video, graphic design or Canva skills would be beneficial, but are not essential.
- Any existing marketing, communications, social media or content creation experience is hugely beneficial.
As a result of volunteering in this role you will get:
