Volunteer Programs!

Patient Companionship

We believe there is an intense longing for connection in our community. Our Patient Companionship program allows volunteers the chance to build relationships with our patients at a very vulnerable stage in their life. Whether it's reading with a patient or playing dominos, the opportunity for growth and compassion is endless. We encourage all individuals seeking connection to check out our Direct Patient Care program!

We Honor Veterans

We Honor Veterans is a program designed to empower veteran patients and their families during their time with us. Our veteran volunteers and staff provide a pinning ceremony acknowledging these heroes. We believe it's never too late to show gratitude and honor these men and women for their time and sacrifice while serving our country.

Pet Peace of Mind

As THBR grows, so does our love for furry friends. Our Pet Peace of Mind Program was created to give our patients the comfort of knowing their pets will be cared for during and after their time with us. This program is for individuals with a love for animals and compassion for those no longer capable of caring for them.

The Butterfly Wing

Volunteering at our Butterfly wing with our inpatient staff is one of the most rewarding ways a person can serve at THBR. We find that any extra support for our staff can make a huge impact on our patient/families’ experience. We encourage anyone interested in service and direct patient care to checkout our Butterfly Wing Program!

Music Program

Research into the use of music in hospice and palliative care has consistently found that patients, family and staff all benefit from music, and often after only one session. Music has been found to help decrease anxiety, agitation, and pain. It also helps patients to slow and deepen their breath. We encourage all individuals with a love for music and passion for healing to join us and help bring harmony to the patients of THBR.

Camp Conquer

Camp Conquer teaches children how to identify, express, and most importantly conquer their emotions through activities that take them through the grief process. Each day, children are broken up into separate age groups so counselors can provide specialized activities and guidance. Because the camp runs solely on donations and volunteers it is free of charge for all children that attend.

Administrative/Office

While direct patient care is not for everyone, we have plenty of volunteer opportunities available that are crucial to the success of our non-profit organization. We encourage all individuals with a passion for hospice and palliative care to join our team!

Fundraising/Special Events

As the Hospice of Baton Rouge grows, we are striving to help the community on all fronts. With our team and the help of our wonderful volunteers, we provide grief support to all children who may be struggling with a loss of any kind. Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment for these young people and give them a space to heal.

Handy Man/Woman

Sometimes our patients need a little extra support when it comes to household chores. Whether it's moving furniture or organizing a room, fifteen minutes can make a world of difference to our patients and their families. This program is perfect for individuals with busy schedules who aren't capable of making long term commitments.
