Volunteers play an important role in our community events. For information about the types of opportunities available in this area, check out the Volunteer Opportunities below.
Volunteer opportunities in Events are typically a good fit for people who are:
- 14+ years of age
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Available evenings and weekends
- Enjoy working independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable engaging members of the public

Roles that involve engaging with children and other vulnerable populations will also require completion of a Criminal Record Check. A form will be provided following your interview.
Volunteer opportunities are typically posted up to six weeks prior to an event.

Volunteer Opportunities
Event Assistant

Event Assistants play an important role in special events. From assisting with set-up to helping at activity stations, this is a great role for anyone who enjoys an assortment of tasks and wants to experience various aspects of event production.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 16 years of age
- Able to safely lift 20lbs
- Previous customer service experience is an asset
- Fluent in spoken English (fluency in a second language is an asset)
Activity Attendant

Activity Attendants help to engage eventgoers of all ages by facilitating activities such as children’s crafts, public art projects, cultural activities, and lawn and carnival games.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 14 years of age
- Experience working with children
- Comfortable interacting with the public
- Fluent in spoken English (fluency in a second language is an asset)
Event Ambassador

Event Ambassadors help to create warm and welcoming events by greeting eventgoers, providing event information and directions to areas of interest.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 15 years of age
- Previous customer service experience is an asset
- Fluent in spoken English (fluency in a second language is an asset)

MAY DAYS 2026
May Days is Port Coquitlam's annual Spring Festival, now celebrating 103rd years! Join us a variety of exciting events, including our Opening Ceremonies, the Kids Bike Race and Rotary May Day Parade, and the Party in the Square, featuring live entertainment, a May Days Market featuring local businesses and artisans, a Community Safety Fair, interactive art activities, beverage garden, food trucks, and more!
We are currently seeking volunteers for a variety of roles, including set-up and takedown support, assisting with the May Days Market, and supporting with a variety of children's and family activities.
Feel free to sign up for anything you are interested in. A member of the Special Events team will be in touch to confirm your volunteer placement. Volunteer placement is made on the basis of the role requirements, skills and experience of the applicant.
If you are interested in a role working with children, youth, or other vulnerable populations, a member of the Volunteer Services team will be in touch to provide you with a police record search request form. Please note that some volunteer opportunities may not be available to view or sign up for until this step has been completed.
