General Support - eLiteracy Mentors

We need volunteers to mentor new computer users one on one. This is NOT a technical job. You would only mentor them in the use of programs you use yourself, like browsers and email. We have separate technical volunteers to help with real technical issues. This mentoring would be mostly over the phone or email, but would occasionally necessitate visiting the user at their home. We try to assign a mentor to a new user who lives near where the mentor lives or works. The timing is "as needed"; when the new user runs into a problem. CCIL coaches them to respect the fact that their mentor has other responsibilities which may delay the help for up to 24 hours. This mentoring service is needed because we provide Internet access and email accounts to other non-profits, like Chester County Opportunities Industrialization Center, for their members. These non-profits don't have the staff to support the new computer users themselves. We have six people doing it already and need more. Just think about when you first started using a computer. It's really important to have someone to turn to for help. If you like helping people, you will like this kind of volunteer work.
