APEGA Science Olympics (Calgary) - Calgary Challenge Manager (2026)

The Opportunity

The APEGA Science Olympics are back! APEGA's K-12 Outreach team is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers interested in sharing their passion for engineering and geoscience with students at the 2026 APEGA Science Olympics. These events are great opportunities to foster a love for Engineering and Geoscience in students, promote your profession in the community, and network with other members.

The Impact

APEGA’s Science Olympics events are a vital piece of inspiring the next generation of professional engineers and geoscientists and for introducing students to the exciting possibilities of a career in STEM. These events are a great opportunity to promote your profession in the community. By participating in the APEGA Science Olympics, volunteers challenge students to address real-world problems that require innovative solutions.

Challenge Manager

Challenge Managers are responsible for leading a challenge on the day of the event. They will act as the point person for all of the volunteers judging that activity, requiring them to be deeply familiar with the activity and the APEGA Science Olympics event. This is a great opportunity if you would like to take on a larger role at the event.

Before the event, Challenge Managers meet to familiarize themselves with the challenges and event logistics. They then attend the Event Volunteer training to help us train the Event Volunteers on how to judge the challenges. On the day of the event, they manage the volunteers in their division, ensure everything is on schedule, assign volunteers tasks, and address judge questions. There will be multiple Challenge Managers assigned to each division to support each other in managing the group. Previous APEGA Science Olympics volunteer experience is required.
