The mission of Solid Ground is to prevent and end homelessness for families with children in the communities we serve through housing, resources and opportunity.
Every family has a safe and affordable home, where parents and children thrive in school, at work and their community and can achieve their goals and dreams.
Person-Centered – We are responsive to all we serve: participants, partners, the community and one another. We design our programs with the individual at the core, acknowledging their strengths and working to identify the best path for their family’s success.
Equity & Inclusion – We acknowledge systemic racism, classism and other forms of discrimination as primary causes of the affordable housing crisis and homelessness. We work to right these wrongs as a housing and service provider by engaging respectfully with our program participants, our employees and our community.
Integrity – We build trust with others, act with transparency and hold ourselves to the highest standards in all we do.
Community – We believe that safe, stable and affordable housing is the foundation of healthy, successful families and thriving communities.
Solid Ground was established in 1987 by a group of women in Ramsey and Washington Counties seeking to address the needs of families living on a low income in their communities. Though originally envisioned to serve women with children, Solid Ground houses all family structures, including single fathers and two-parent families.
Solid Ground’s primary goal is to help families experiencing homelessness achieve stability and to sustain permanent housing so that they have the foundation upon which to build their future. Our programming focuses on assisting families to acquire greater proficiency in their independent living skills, as well as accessing chemical dependency treatment, physical and mental health services, affordable childcare and transportation, and other needed resources so that when they leave our housing, they are more self-sufficient and better able to support their family. Solid Ground strives to provide trauma-informed care and serve each family in a holistic manner, addressing both the needs of the individual and family as a whole. Solid Ground currently operates eight supportive housing programs serving approximately 500+ homeless women, men and children each year.
Thank you for volunteering and welcome to Solid Ground! Volunteers are very important to the work we do and to the people we serve. Your impact will be felt by the families and staff of Solid Ground for many years to come.
