DreamBIG Children's Festival

DreamBIG Children's Festival 2021

Volunteer Applications Now Open!

19 - 29 May 2021

This year's theme is 'Be Curious'

DreamBIG Children’s Festival is South Australia’s iconic biennial arts festival for schools and families that places its audience at the centre of fresh, inventive, imaginative and inspiring arts experiences.

More than 2 million South Australian children have participated in the festival since its inception in 1974 (as Come Out Festival), and it remains an intrinsic part of growing up in South Australia.

Adelaide Festival Centre has produced DreamBIG since 2017, and has embraced the responsibility that comes with putting on an event that holds such an important place in the hearts and souls of South Australians of every age.

DreamBIG Children’s Festival is divided into two program streams – the school’s program where children participate in events and performances through their school, and the general public program for families.

Volunteer applications for the 2021 festival are now open, we will be looking for a range of volunteers to fill roles across front of house, workshop assistants, school guides and other roles. We do require that all volunteers have a Working with Children Clearance, if needed this is something we can arrange for volunteers in advance of the Festival without any cost.

All roles and schedules will be listed in mid-April.

Looking forward to welcoming volunteers to the DreamBIG Children's Festival 2021 team.

Mission Statement

A word from the festival’s Creative Producer, Susannah Sweeney...

How can we help young people navigate this strange new world that 2020 has delivered?

By fostering our shared sense of humanity and curiosity. Humanity reveals our ability to love and have compassion. Curiosity drives our desire to ask questions about things we don’t understand. Both are intrinsic to the arts and sciences.

Engendering empathy and curiosity in young people sets them on a great path! In this vein I offer you the wise words of our poster winner Phitchapha Ritnayom (Yr 6) – ‘Being an artist means being curious. When you’re curious you observe new ideas and see new worlds. I drew a picture about aliens who heard about DreamBIG Festival and they were curious to see what it is all about. They are inquisitive just like me and want to be part of this great event.” I say YES to that! I invite you to explore DreamBIG 2021, full of experiences that will stretch the children's minds, fill them with wonder and help them find their inner explorer.
