Volunteer Opportunities

ARH Auxiliary

Volunteers would become a member of the ARH Auxiliary, an organization that has been serving healthcare in Abbotsford for over 100 years.  The primary volunteer role is in the Gift Shop.  Retail experience would be an asset but volunteers can be trained.  There are also other roles in a variety of hospital areas as well as roles on the Auxiliary Executive.

Book Cart

Teams of two volunteers visit inpatients units with a book cart to offer books to patients.

Care & Respect for Elders in Emergency (CARE)

Volunteers provide comfort and support for older patients who are expected to spend considerable time in the Emergency department, especially those who are unaccompanied.

Emergency Department

Emergency Volunteers provide support and information to patients, families and visitors in the Emergency Department through the delivery of enhanced communication with patients in a guest related role, complementing and enhancing the treatment role provided by professional staff.

Friendly Visitor

Friendly Visitor Volunteers visit with hospitalized patients in various medical units to increase patient comfort, wellness and to provide socialization.

General Day Care

General Day Care Volunteers provide comfort, support, and information to patients and families attending General Day Care for procedures, complementing and enhancing the role provided by professional staff.

Gift Shop

Volunteers would become a member of the Auxiliary to Abbotsford Regional Hospital, an organization that has been serving healthcare in Abbotsford for over 100 years.  The primary volunteer role is in the Gift Shop in the main lobby of the hospital that sells a variety of gift and décor items, cards, flowers and snacks. Retail experience would be an asset but volunteers can be trained. 

Medical Imaging

Medical Imaging Volunteers provide a welcoming environment for patients/clients in the Medical Imaging Department and to assist Medical Imaging staff as appropriate.

Real Time Patient Experience Surveys

Teams of two volunteers assist patients and families with completing online surveys regarding their experiences while in hospital.  Proficiency with a tablet is required.

St John Ambulance / BC Pets & Friends Pet Therapy

Qualified, accredited pet handlers and their dog, visit with patients, families, visitors and staff who need a little pet connection.

Surgical Day Care

Surgical Day Care Volunteers provide comfort, support, and information to patients and families attending Surgical Day Care for procedures, complementing and enhancing the role provided by professional staff.

 

Welcome and Wayfinding Volunteer

Welcome and Wayfinding Volunteers at the information desk at the front entrance of the hospital provide wayfinding directions and answer general questions for outpatients and visitors (patient locating, parking, etc).
