General Interests

Helping Hands Food Bank

Good nutrition has long been recognized as an important tool for managing HIV/AIDS. The Helping Hands Food Bank offers a menu of choices rather than a pre-selected box of food. The selection includes fruits and vegetables, dairy products, frozen meats and protein sources, several vegetarian options, and some personal hygiene and household items.

When we say the Helping Hands Food Bank can’t run without volunteers, we are not exaggerating. Without the dedication of our volunteer base, this Food Bank would not be successful.   Shifts are Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 1 pm or 1 - 4 pm

Helping Hands Delivery Driver

The Volunteer Delivery Driver delivers food and produce to homebound clients who are unable to leave their homes to pick up their food at our location. Staff map out short, convenient routes to clients’ homes, and volunteers utilize their own vehicle and donate the mileage.

This would be the perfect opportunity for individuals who can only give a couple hours once or twice per month.  Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:30 am - 1 pm or 1 - 4 pm.  Mileage is reimbursed.

Prevention: Condom Distribution Network

In addition to linking those affected by HIV and AIDS to services our prevention staff works tirelessly to prevent new positive test results by mobile testing in at risk communities, handing out condom and clean works packs, and making sexual health information accessbile to our community.

We are looking for individuals to help make prevention packs in their home.  We provide the supplies and you put the packets together from the safety of your home!

Prevention staff distributes over 3,000 packs throughout Austin a month and we need your help to continue preventing an evolving epidemic.

Office Support

Volunteers are needed to assist with various office tasks - filing, data entry, making phone calls, etc. CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

Community Events Volunteers

Vivent Health Austin puts on many events throughout the year including fundraising luncheons for our women-focused programs, theatre performances, information tables, and the annual Step to Zero Austin! We are looking for passionate and dedicated volunteers to attend events and help make them a success by engaging the community about the work that we do. CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

Prevention: Mobile Testing Team/Bar Testing

Our Prevention Team travels throughout the Central Texas area to reach individuals at the highest risk of HIV infection. We work to modify all our outreach efforts as needed to best reach current and emerging risk populations. Often, the people we try to help are individuals who have little to no access to health, wellness, or medical care. Outreach volunteers will go through extensive training, are asked to commit to long-term volunteer service, and must be comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse cultures, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities and/or expressions. CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

Prevention:Testing Reception

We are looking for consistent volunteers to provide warmth and a welcoming spirit to those who come in for testing on the first and third Saturday of every month as well Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at The Q Austin.  Testing Hours:   THIS OPPORTUNITY IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

The Q Austin

The Q is dedicated to building a safe, affirming, and healthy community that empowers young LGBTQIAP communities in Austin. The Q envisions a network of collaborators and partners promoting solidarity, well-being, and the awesomeness of Austin’s queer communities.

The Mpowerment Project can make a difference in the lives of young gay, bisexual, and questioning men ages 18 – 29 by mobilizing these men to shape a healthy community for themselves, build positive social connections, and support their friends to have safer sex.   CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

Women Rising Project Childcare

Women Rising Project is dedicated to strengthening HIV-positive women through programs and activities that provide HIV education, connection, support, advocacy, and leadership opportunities.

The WRP support group meets monthly and our Child Care Advocates spend time with the little loved ones (typically the children, grandchildren, or god children of the women) while their guardians practice self care by attending the support group. It is typically 4-8 children ages 2-6 and takes place on Thursday evenings.  You will have plenty to keep them busy including coloring books, snacks, and movies.   CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
