Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an orientation?
Yes. All volunteers will have a brief orientation each morning in front of the Hankerson home. Orientation will cover a safety briefing and an overview of Rebuilding Together and the activities for the day. All volunteers are required to attend the orientation.
What is the age requirement?
Every volunteer working on a home must be at least 14 years of age. Those under the age of 18 must have their waiver of release signed by a parent/guardian with the parent/guardian present and working alongside the minor.
What time do I need to be there?
Please plan to arrive no later than 8:45am to sign in and attend the orientation.
What should I wear?
Whether painting, drywall or cleanup, your clothes and shoes WILL get dirty, so please wear old clothes that may not come clean. No open toe shoes are allowed on site. No Sandals, No Crocs. Tennis shoes are a great choice. We also suggest removing all jewelry before arriving to the work site. Designing Spaces will be providing shirts for all of our volunteers.
What about lunch?
Rebuilding Together Broward does provide water & snacks for volunteers. We will not be providing lunch.
What if I can only work in the afternoon?
In order to prevent chaos on the jobsite, we ask that everyone arrive at the start of the day. This is when we assign and explain the tasks for the day. If you are not able to arrive at that time, please let us know ahead of time so we can make proper accommodations.
What if I don't know anything about construction?
No problem! We have skilled staff and volunteer leaders on site who will explain every task that you do. If you are not comfortable with a task, you can simply ask to do something else.
What happens if it’s raining?
Please report to the job site regardless of weather conditions.* We will release you from the jobsite if the weather gets too extreme for work. Otherwise, we will just wait it out. Also, typically if it is raining at your house, it is not raining at the jobsite…that’s South Florida weather for you! * In the case of Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, the jobsite WILL be closed. Please follow all government restrictions and regulations.
Will my car be safe while I work?
Carpooling is encouraged. Please do take the precaution of putting all valuables out of sight (the trunk is a great spot). Rebuilding Together Broward County, Inc. cannot be held responsible for your car or valuables.
What else can I do to help?
There are a lot of things that you can do to help. One option is hosting a personal rebuild-a-thon. By going to www.firstgiving.com/28139 you can create a fundraising page that you can send to your friends and family. Funds from this site are sent directly to Rebuilding Together Broward and used to improve more houses, improve our operations, etc. We are also always looking for committed volunteers to offer their time and talents by offering office support and working on our standing committees and task forces.
Thank you for supporting Rebuilding Together Broward County! Your volunteerism is appreciated!
