Volunteer Work Day - Birch Ridge- Prescribed Burn Support
Hello SELTies!
As you have likely seen from our newsletters, social media, and email campaigns, we will be conducting a prescribed burn at Birch Ridge Community Forest! This type of work is very contingent on a number of things being right at the same time and it looks like Monday April 27th will be a day with all the right factors in place.
Chad will be working closely with the contractor directly conducting the burn. I will be onsite to support the burn- mostly by keeping folks away from the area to allow the crew to work safely. I am looking for folks to help out by hanging out at the major trail intersections that would allow access to the burn area and re-direct anyone from heading out that way. There are 3 sites that will need folks- right at the parking lot on Birch Hill Road, the junction of South Ridge Trail and Corridor 22, and the junction of Lion's Camp Pride Trail and Corridor 22.
The burn is expected to take 6-8 hours to complete, so it's a bit of a day. I'm putting them out as 4 hour shifts- you can do a morning, an afternoon, or both if you've got a completely free day! I would suggest bringing a camp chair, some books, maybe a friend to hang out with.
We'll meet at the Birch Hill Road parking area at 830am. Closures will be from 9am to 4pm (earlier if the burn goes faster).
