Fire on the Local Landscape Community Wildfire Awareness Event

The Mathey Center, Epping

The Southeast Land Trust of NH (SELT), the NH State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Forest Protect Bureau of NH Division of Forests & Lands invite regional conservation commissions, fire chiefs, and SELT landowners to attend this Wildfire Awareness and Fire Risk Reduction Event on Tuesday, April 28th from 1:00 - 4:00 PM.

Presentations will include -

Understanding Wildfire - Factors, Risk, and History in New Hampshire 

    • How wildfires start and burn, changing conditions in our region, and ways to work together to reduce impacts of wildfire in NH.

Wildfire and Prescribed Fire on Conserved Land

  • Ecological management of conserved land and how fire - both wildfire and prescribed fire - relate to the health of local ecosystems.

  • The importance of public perception and education around the use of prescribed fire on the ability for practitioners to utilize this important management strategy.

Home Fire Safety

  • Key aspects of home fire safety incorporating key elements of fire preparedness by looking into the statistics of home fires, the importance of smoke and CO alarms, and having home escape plans.

  • If time allows, heating and cooking safety.
