City of Edmonton - Volunteer Weed Pull Program

Fraser Ravine Weed Pull Details 

City of Edmonton staff will be leading volunteers in the removal of Canada thistle and non-native vetch species with help from a local botany expert! Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided.

The site is accessed by walking from the main residential road through a trail entrance between two houses. The site is not shaded but there is a treestand close by if volunteers would like a break in the shade. The terrain is relatively even and vegetated with grasses and small trees/shrubs. If there are fallen trees, animal nests and other hidden hazards, City staff will point out and/or flag. 

Meeting and weed pull location

• Parking: There is free residential street parking available on Fraser Vista NW. Please park on the east side of the road to avoid blocking any driveways.
• Transit: There is a transit stop on 14 Street and Fraser Way NW that is a 5 minute walk to the weed pull site.
• Biking: Fraser Ravine connects to the River Valley Trails along the north side of the river to the east and west. Although there are no bike racks, you are welcome to bring your bike to the weed pull site and lock it to a tree or bench. Otherwise, it will always be in sight of the group. 
  

Washrooms: 

There are no washrooms on site. Please use the washroom before attending the weed pull.

Other Site Details:

• The site has a beautiful view of the river - feel free to bring binoculars to peek at some waterfowl! 

• Some plants have irritating leaves so long sleeve shirts are highly recommended.

• The site is mostly flat and in view from the main trails. We will be working in an area with tall vegetation, along a paved trail.
