Meeting Location

Weed Pull Location

Parking: There is a free parking lot located on 103a Ave NW. There is also free street parking on 87 Ave NW

Transit: The 001 and 131 buses have stops on 89th Street and Rowland Rd., approximately 6 minutes walk to the park. The 002 and 101 have stops on Jasper Avenue, approximately 10 minutes walk to the park.

Biking: Dawson Park connects to other trails along the north side of the river. There is a bike rack at the parking lot, near the washroom building, or bikes can be brought to the weed pull site. It will always be in view of the weed pull site.

Weed Pull Site:

City of Edmonton staff will meet volunteers near the washroom building 10 minutes before the event start time, and will wait 5-10 minutes after the event begins. If you arrive after the start time, please follow signage near the trail to the weed pull site.

The site is approximately 300 metres (average 5 minutes walking time) from the parking lot. The site is partially shaded. The terrain is mostly flat, but thickly vegetated. Site access is via a gravel path. It is well-packed, flat and maintained but has some minor elevation change and loose stones.

Washrooms:

There is a public washroom building on site with a “womens” and a “mens” washroom. The doors to the washroom building are heavy and have no automatic opening button. There are no larger stalls.

Other Site Details:

  • Please note that Dawson Park is an off-leash dog area however, we do not allow our volunteers to bring their own dog (trained service animals are exempt from this rule).
  • The park can be very busy, but is usually not noisy. Occasionally there will be noise from an e-bike or watercraft on the river. There is sometimes an unpleasant odour from a nearby stormwater outflow. We are able to adjust our weed pull site location to remain upwind of this.

If you require any accommodations, please reach out to us at invasiveweeds@edmonton.ca. We want to keep learning about the diverse needs of our community, and we value your contributions greatly!
