Weed Pull Events - Weekdays 2026 - Hermitage Park Weed Pull Event
Hermitage Park Weed Pull Details
City of Edmonton staff will be leading volunteers removing burdock, common tansy and more in the natural areas of Hermitage Park in Edmonton’s northeast River Valley.
- Parking: There is free parking available for the Hermitage off-leash dog park.
- Transit: There is a transit stop on Hooke Rd above the park. Google maps shows an informal trail down into the park. The sidewalk is recommended, though, to avoid unmaintained trails. The walk is about 15 minutes, either way.
- Biking: Hermitage Park connects to the River Valley Trails along the north side of the river. Although there are no bike racks, you are welcome to bring your bike to the weed pull site and lock it to a tree. Otherwise, it will always be in sight of the group.
Weed Pull Site:
The site is mostly flat and in view from the main trails. We will be working in an area with tall vegetation, along an unpaved trail. Gloves, tools and refreshments will be provided.
The site is accessed by walking from the parking lot along unpaved and mowed grass trails. The site is not shaded but there is a treestand close by if volunteers would like a break in the shade. The terrain is relatively even and vegetated with grasses and small shrubs. If there are fallen trees and other hidden hazards, City staff will point out and/or flag.
Washrooms:
There are portable washroom facilities on site.
Other Site Details:
- The site is located at an off-leash area. It is likely we will encounter off-leash dogs entering the weed pull site. However, we do not allow our volunteers to bring their own dog to the event (trained service animals are exempt from this rule).
- The park is usually quite busy but not typically noisy. There is a popular cycling trail nearby but we will remain away from it.
- There is open water here, which may smell on hot days. We will aim to remain upwind of any unpleasant aromas.
If you require any accommodations, please reach out to us at invasiveweeds@edmonton.ca. We want to keep learning about the diverse needs of our community, and we value your contributions greatly!
