Weed Pull Events - Saturdays 2026 - Mill Creek Ravine (at 78 Ave NW) Weed Pull Event
City of Edmonton staff will be leading volunteers in hand-pulling garlic mustard along the unpaved multi-use path of the Mill Creek Ravine. Staff will meet volunteers at the weed pull site, which is between 76th avenue and Whyte avenue on the unpaved multiuse trail, at the bottom of the hill at 78th avenue. Please follow signage near the unpaved path to the weed pull site.
Meeting and Weed Pull Location
- Parking: Residential street parking is available around the Mill Creek Ravine. We recommend parking along 78 avenue NW and 93 street NW, along Donnan Park. From here, enter the ravine at the west end of 78 avenue and follow the path down the hill.
- Transit: The closest transit stops are on 96 street NW, approximately an 8 minute walk (600 metres) to the weed pull site either through the residential area or through the ravine on the gravel trail.
- Biking: The Mill Creek Ravine connects to other trails along the south side of the river. You will need to be on the unpaved multi-use trail, and follow signs for the weed pull once you are near the site. There is no bike rack at the weed pull site, but bikes can be locked to a bench or tree, and will always be in sight.
Washrooms:
There are no public washrooms on site. The nearest washrooms are located at the Ritchie Market on 76th Ave and 96th Street, approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the weed pull site.
Other Site Details:
- The site is approximately 300 metres (average 5 minutes walking time) from the parking on 78th avenue, and down a fairly steep path. The site is shaded. The terrain is uneven, a bit steep in places, and thickly vegetated with some fallen trees and small shrubs. It can be muddy after rainfall, but if conditions are unfavorable we will relocate to a nearby site and let volunteers know.
- The Mill Creek Ravine has an off-leash dog area along the unpaved multiuse path. Occasionally we encounter off-leash dogs entering the weed pull site. However, we do not allow our volunteers to bring their own dog (trained service animals are exempt from this rule).
- The park can be busy, but is usually not noisy. Occasionally there will be noise from an e-bike or dogs. There is sometimes an unpleasant odour from a nearby stormwater outflow. We are able to adjust our weed pull site location to remain upwind of this.
- All supplies (gloves, tools, garbage bags) will be provided.

If you require any accommodations, please reach out to us at invasiveweeds@edmonton.ca. We want to keep learning about the diverse needs of our community, and we value your contributions greatly!
