Weed Pull Events - Weekdays 2026 - Larch Sanctuary Weed Pull Event
Larch Sanctuary Volunteer Weed Pull Event Details
City of Edmonton staff will lead volunteers in Edmonton & Area Land Trust’s Larch Sanctuary, a Conservation Easement located right here in Edmonton. We will be hand-removing Canada thistle, burdock, common tansy and more to help preserve biodiversity and conserve the natural area. Afterwards, staff from Edmonton & Area Land Trust will take interested volunteers on a guided tour of the land! Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided.
- Parking: There is free parking in a gravel lot on the south side of 23 Ave NW, but you can only enter this parking lot going north on 23 Ave NW. Please note that this is a small parking lot and may fill up quickly in the evening. There is an alternate parking area on the north side of 23 Ave NW, but can only be accessed going south on 23 Ave NW
- Transit: Unfortunately, there are no transit stops close to the weed pull site.
- Biking: There is a multi-use bike path along 23 Ave NW as well as entry from the north and south of Larch Sanctuary through the Whitemud Ravine (north) and Blackmud Ravine (south). There is no bike rack on site, but you are welcome to lock your bike to a nearby tree and it will always be in sight.
Weed Pull Site:
We will be working on removing Canada thistle, leafy spurge, common tansy, and white cockle. Gloves will be provided. It is important that volunteers wear long sleeves to avoid irritation of the Canada thistle. City of Edmonton staff will meet volunteers at the parking lot. The weed pull site is located over the pedestrian bridge (Smith Crossing).
The site is accessed by walking down an elevated gravel trail from street level.
The site is in full sun, but there is nearby shade and a canopy tent will be set up if required. The terrain is uneven and vegetated with grasses and small shrubs. It can be slippery after rainfall, but if conditions are unfavorable we will relocate to a nearby site and let volunteers know.
Washrooms:
There are no washroom facilities at this site. We recommend using the washroom before attending.
Other Site Details:
- There may be traffic noise overhead from the 23 Ave bridge during peak hours.
