Recovery Alberta is a new provincial health agency that provides mental health, addiction, and correctional health services. Volunteers play an integral role within Recovery Alberta. They provide support to patients and family members within staff lead programs and on an individual basis.

 

 

Volunteer opportunities for Recovery Alberta in Edmonton include:

  1. Alberta Hospital Edmonton (17480 Fort Road)

AHE is a psychiatric hospital providing expert care through both inpatient and outpatient programs. Volunteer positions: Activity Lead, Program Assistant, Tutor, One to One Support, Pet Therapy, and Apparel Shop Assistant

  1. Henwood Treatment Centre (18750 - 18 Street Northwest)

Henwood offers a 19-day intensive residential addiction treatment program for adults who are experiencing addictions challenges as a result of their alcohol, drug and/or tobacco use, and gambling. Volunteer positions: Activity Lead, Donation Program Assistant, and Pet Therapy

  1. Aspire Homes (northeast Edmonton)

ASPIRE Homes is a specialized community housing project that supports those individuals with complex needs. These specialized homes allow clients to live safely within the community while continuing to work on their recovery goals. Volunteer positions: One to One Support and Pet Therapy

  1. Community Programs (downtown Edmonton)

Community-based programs provide treatment and support to help with substance use and mental health related concerns and conditions. Volunteer positions: Pet Therapy, Tutor, Program Assistant, and Research Assistant

 

Requirements for volunteering with Recovery Alberta:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum 6-month consecutive commitment of one shift (approx. 2 hours) per week. Shift days/times are not flexible.
  • Current Police Information Check with vulnerable sector check
  • Provide 2 letters of reference
  • Site orientations and program training
  • Complete required AHS learning modules

 

We are not a work experience facility - we cannot place applicants in roles held by paid employees.
