Support Others in Times of Need
Make a meaningful impact.
At Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland, operated by Wesley Mission, we’re here for people in crisis — and we need compassionate volunteers to help us continue this life-saving work.
Whether you're answering calls, sorting books, helping at events, or supporting behind the scenes, every volunteer plays a vital role in ensuring no one faces their darkest moments alone.
A Legacy of Care
Lifeline’s story began right here in Sydney’s Sutherland region. In 1963, the late Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker received a call from a man in deep distress. Tragically, that man later took his own life. Moved by this loss, Sir Walker launched the world’s first 24-hour crisis support line — so that no one would ever have to suffer in silence again.
Today, Lifeline answers over one million calls each year through 13 11 14, and Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland remains at the heart of that mission. Our centre is home to a dedicated team of 13 staff and over 250 trained crisis supporters, backed by a vibrant community of volunteers.

Our Mission
No person should have to walk through a crisis alone.
That’s why Lifeline supports people in the Sydney and Sutherland area in challenging times – from isolation and anxiety to suicidal thoughts and domestic violence. We’ve been doing this for a long time and are always there during people’s darkest moments.
