WHO WE ARE |
AWLQ is a leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals and the people who love them. Since 1959, we have worked to reunite lost pets, rehome animals in need, and provide affordable veterinary care through our community vet clinics. Guided by our values of integrity, innovation, optimism and compassion, we proudly operate with an “open admission” philosophy, never turning away a healthy, sociable or treatable animal. Our nationally recognised Getting to Zero model has helped reduce euthanasia rates and continues to set the benchmark for ethical, humane rehoming practices in Australia. Beyond our rehoming centres, we support the community through a range of programs designed to keep pets and families together. Our National Desexing Network reduces unwanted litters through subsidised desexing; our Golden Hearts™ program provides essential support for seniors and their pets; and our crisis and education initiatives help safeguard vulnerable animals and promote responsible pet ownership. With the dedication of our staff, volunteers and supporters, we strive every day toward a future where every companion animal is safe, valued and given the chance to thrive. |

VOLUNTEERING WITH US

Volunteers are at the heart of AWLQ, and their dedication helps us care for almost 10,000 animals every year. Their compassion and generosity support every corner of our organisation, from hands-on animal care and enrichment to sorting donations, assisting in our op shops, and supporting our community programs. Every task, big or small, makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the animals we care for. Becoming an AWLQ volunteer means joining a passionate, animal-loving community that creates real change every day. Whether you are helping in our rehoming centres, offering a temporary home as a foster carer, supporting our clinics, or lending your skills behind the scenes, your contribution gives animals the second chance they deserve. When you volunteer with AWLQ, you are not just helping animals, you are becoming part of a caring, committed family making brighter futures possible. |
