Imperial War Museums

Our volunteering roles are now closed. We will be opening up more opportunities to get involved again in Spring 2025. In the meantime, do visit us in branch and meet our volunteers.

Over 1000 volunteers take part in a variety of roles across our five branches.

Volunteers are central to IWM's future and work; they help bring to life the stories of our collections, care for our objects and promote great visitor experiences.

Use the vacancies search bar to search for opportunities that match what you're looking for, your availability and the site you're interested in.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We typically recruit for volunteers three times per year: February, June and September. If the role you’re looking for is not currently available please check back on the IWM website during this time.

Our Volunteering & Engagement Vision & Mission

We are one of the world’s leading authorities on conflict and its impact on people’s lives – from 1914 through to the present day and beyond.

We expect our stories to change the way people think about war and we are proud to be regarded as essential sights of London, Cambridgeshire and Greater Manchester.

Our Vision is for people everywhere to seek IWM out as the place to volunteer through a volunteering programme that is impactful, flexible and appealing.

Our Mission is to inspire a deeper understanding of the causes, and consequences of war through providing a range of volunteering opportunities that empower, educate and inform.
