City of Melbourne recognises the unique skills, strengths, experiences and passion that volunteers bring to our organisation. Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the work we do providing expertise, insight and knowledge to the services we deliver to the community.

City of Melbourne student ambassadors play a key role in co-designing, leading, supporting and promoting initiatives of the City of Melbourne. Students will have the opportunity to be tour leaders to support new international students, curate stories and posts for social media, opportunities to MC and be the voice for student communities. Professional development opportunities will be offered from public speaking, communication, social media and learning from professionals.
The program runs from April 2026 to November 2026. We are looking for international students that are committed to learning, help promote the City of Melbourne and want to give back to community.
Applications open Monday 2 February 2026 and close 10am on Monday 16 March 2026.
Due to potential high interest, we reserve the right to close applications ahead of schedule.

Our famous "red coat" volunteers work across a number of programs, including
- City Ambassador Program (CAP & CAP at Queen Victoria Market)
- Fitzroy Gardens Precinct (including Cooks' Cottage)
- Melbourne Visitor Booth
- Melbourne Visitor Hub
- International Student Visitor Services Volunteer Program (dedicated stream for international students)

We typically recruit twice a year for event volunteers. See dates below.
We will not be taking on volunteers outside of these recruitment dates.

Interested in volunteering at M/FW in the future?
We open our volunteer applications in June each year. Submit an Expression of Interest to be the first to know when applications open for 2026.
