Community Connections and Care Services aims to help promote independence, maintain daily living skills and provide social inclusion opportunities for older people and those with a disability or health conditions. 

Our volunteers support the following programs - Delivered Meals (also known as 'Meals on Wheels'), Lunch with the Bunch and 121 Transport; and Group Services (PAG). We are looking for volunteers with good communication skills, and empathy for older adults and/or people with disabilities. These are ongoing roles, available to people aged 18 and over. If you think our roles might suit you, please apply. You'll find more information on current vacancies below. Volunteer Opportunities in Community Connection & Care Services

121 Transport Service

The volunteering component of this program runs Mondays to Fridays from 7.45am to 5.00pm. Volunteer shifts vary from 30 minutes to several hours.  We have shifts available on all weekdays, including emergency back-up roles. Volunteers drive frail older adults or people with disabilities to health related appointments. This ongoing role is only available to people aged 18 years or over. 

  • Volunteer drivers will need to feel comfortable driving a Council vehicle (station wagon) and possess a valid Victorian Drivers Licence (car).
  • Destinations may be in Wyndham, Melbourne CBD or other major hospital locations. Council vehicles are fitted with a navigation device. Drivers must be prepared to drive in Melbourne CBD or outer Melbourne suburbs. 
  • Routes start from our office at the Civic Centre, 45 Princes Hwy, Werribee. Volunteer drivers collect car and drive to people's homes, then to appointments. Then return people home and car to our office. 
  • Be comfortable with the physical requirements of the role, including stretching, lifting and carrying.

Delivered Meals (also known as 'Meals on Wheels')

The volunteering component of this program runs Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 12.30pm. We have shifts available on all weekdays, including emergency back-up roles. Volunteers deliver a three-course meal to eligible residents within the Wyndham area. This ongoing role is only available to people aged 18 years or over. 

  • Volunteer drivers will need to use their own car, possess a valid Victorian Drivers Licence and ensure their vehicle is in a roadworthy condition. Comprehensive insurance is desirable. A fuel reimbursement will be provided. 
  • Drivers will need to be able to read a road map. Routes start from our office at the Civic Centre, 45 Princes Hwy, Werribee. Volunteer drivers collect eskies containing meals and drive to client’s homes (various locations around Wyndham) and then return to our office.
  • Comfortable with the physical requirements of the role i.e. stretching, assisted lifting and carrying eskies.

Lunch with the Bunch

The volunteering component of this program runs Monday to Friday between 10.30am and 3.30pm. We have shifts available on all weekdays, including emergency back up roles. Volunteers drive frail older adults or people with disabilities to a group lunch in the Wyndham area. This ongoing role is only available to people aged 18 years or over.

  • Volunteer drivers will need to feel comfortable driving a Council vehicle (station wagon) and possess a valid Victorian Drivers Licence (car).
  • Routes start from our office at the Civic Centre, 45 Princes Hwy, Werribee. Volunteer drivers collect car and drive to people's homes, then to a local lunch venue (various locations around Wyndham), stay to eat and provide support, encourage friendships and conversation. After lunch, return people home and car to our office. Council will cover the cost of your meal.
  • Be comfortable with the physical requirements of the role, including stretching, assisted lifting and carrying.

Group Services (PAG) Volunteer - Tarneit

The volunteering component of this program runs Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 2.30pm at the Ageing Well Facility, Penrose Promenade Community Centre, Tarneit. Hours can be flexible, and we have shifts available on all weekdays, including emergency back-up roles. Volunteers assist clients to maintain or re-establish their social contacts by providing support and companionship. This ongoing role is only available to people aged 18 years or over.

  • An interest in and an ability to communicate effectively with older adults and a person with a disability
  • Help with program activities, participate in group discussion and help staff with meal preparation
  • Driving is sometimes required for this role, so a current drivers licence is desirable

Group Services (PAG) Volunteer - Hoppers Crossing

The volunteering component of this program runs Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 2.30pm at the Ageing Well Facility, Central Park Community Centre, Hoppers Crossing. Hours can be flexible, and we have shifts available on all weekdays, including emergency back-up roles. Volunteers assist clients to maintain or re-establish their social contacts by providing support and companionship. This ongoing role is only available to people aged 18 years or over.
