Volunteer Opportunities

Court Advocacy Program Support

At the YWCA Oklahoma City, our survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment will seek assistance in gathering legal information and crisis intervention. If you seek to expand your skills within the social services field and gain knowledge on court advocacy, then this position is for you!

By becoming a Court Advocate program support volunteer, you must be a compassionate listener and provide strong verbal & written communication as you will help clients with safety planning, referrals and guide them in their pursuit of a Victim's Protection Order (VPO).

In this position, Court Advocates must maintain the confidentiality and integrity of our client's sensitive information at all times. You and a supervisor will meet regularly to discuss and report any required information and services for clients. Your verbal and writing skills will be further used to complete documentation to assure compliance with the criteria.

Our Court Advocates are the emotional support and encouragement needed for clients to receive appropriate court information successfully. The YWCA OKC Team hopes you will join us in providing resources and court education to our survivors!

Shelter Assistant

At the YWCA Oklahoma City, we are looking for individuals that will assist staff in maintaining operations within the domestic violence shelter, including assisting within the Safe Watch program as needed

There are many ways you can contribute to the efficient running of the Thelma Gaylord Emergency Shelter for survivors of violence:

  • processing and organizing donations of items and clothing,
  • cleaning client rooms in between residents,
  • assisting at mealtimes, and
  • assisting staff with projects.

As a shelter assistant, you will be a key part of ensuring we are providing the best experience for each person seeking safety at YWCA OKC. This role is flexible but we strive to have at least three volunteers a week to help staff stay on top of different tasks.

If you are someone, who can serve as a positive team member that works to contribute to a cohesive and supportive environment then please join our YWCA crisis services!

You must work well with others and maintain cooperative and communicative relationships with peers, employees, partners, and Board as appropriate.
