Our Sisters' Closet

Our Sisters; Closet is a high-quality resale shop providing funding to YWCA OKC through a sustainable source of revenue. When clients are in need of clothing items, they are able to shop at the Closet for free. Volunteers are essential to the operations of Our Sisters' Closet and provide vital support by sorting donations, stocking the sales floor, and helping to keep the shop clean and organized.

Court Advocacy Intern

At the YWCA Oklahoma City, our survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment will seek assistance in gathering legal information and crisis intervention. If you seek to expand your skills within the social services field and gain knowledge on court advocacy, then this position is for you!

By becoming a Court Advocate Intern, you must be a compassionate listener and provide strong verbal & written communication as you will help clients with safety planning, referrals and guide them in their pursuit of a Victim's Protection Order (VPO).

In this position, Court Advocates must maintain the confidentiality and integrity of our client's sensitive information at all times. You and a supervisor will meet regularly to discuss and report any required information and services for clients. Your verbal and writing skills will be further used to complete documentation to assure compliance with the criteria.

Our Court Advocates are the emotional support and encouragement needed for clients to receive appropriate court information successfully. The YWCA OKC Team hopes you will join us in providing resources and court education to our survivors!

Shelter Assistant

At the YWCA Oklahoma City, we are looking for individuals that will assist staff in maintaining operations within the domestic violence shelter, including assisting within the Safe Watch program as needed

There are many ways you can contribute to the efficient running of the Thelma Gaylord Emergency Shelter for survivors of violence:

  • processing and organizing donations of items and clothing,
  • cleaning client rooms in between residents,
  • assisting at mealtimes, and
  • assisting staff with projects.

As a shelter assistant, you will be a key part of ensuring we are providing the best experience for each person seeking safety at YWCA OKC. This role is flexible but we strive to have at least three volunteers a week to help staff stay on top of different tasks.

You must work well with others and maintain cooperative and communicative relationships with peers, employees, partners, and Board as appropriate.

Counseling Department Support

This role is a supportive role for the counseling department. This role does not provide counseling or attend counseling sessions. Activities include filing, providing support during psycho-educational group sessions, office support, preparing materials for counselors and clients, and more. 

Availability required during normal working hours Monday through Friday.

Counseling Department Intern

This internship is for bachelor-level students interested in learning more about a career in therapeutic services. This internship will not provide counseling or sit in on counseling sessions. 

Activities include filing, providing support during psycho-educational group sessions, office support, preparing materials for counselors and clients, and more. 

Availability required during normal working hours Monday through Friday with some evenings.

Sexual Assault Forensic Advocate Volunteer

At the YWCA Oklahoma City, our survivors of sexual assault will seek crisis invention, emotional support, advocacy, and referrals within hospital settings, or any safe appropriate site as approved by the supervisor. If you are actively ready to serve as a positive compassionate member that demonstrates leadership skills, then please join our Sexual Assault team.
 

Sexual Assault Volunteers must maintain the confidentiality of clients and be sensitive to issues of sexual assault and domestic violence. It is required to be a strong oral and written communicator. Your skills will be put towards providing support and information regarding the hospital and services available to ensure the best possible care for clients.

 

Volunteers are required to complete four (4) observation shifts within six (6) weeks of beginning service. To accomplish this, volunteers are required to fulfill a minimum of 3 on-call shifts per week. Once observations are accomplished, volunteers are required to fulfill a minimum of three (3) on-call shifts each month and attend 10 of 12 monthly team meetings annually.

 

Our Sexual Assault Volunteers & Interns are the emotional support and encouragement needed for our clients. The YWCA Team hopes you will join us in providing resources and successful intervention to our survivors!

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner

A SANE exam provides expert medical care and resources to patients who have recently experienced sexual assault. This holistic medical exam addresses both emotional and physical trauma while offering medications that prevent sexually transmitted infections and more.

Prevention Educator Volunteer

The YWCA Oklahoma City Prevention Education program is looking for student interns or youth volunteers interested in community and educational campaigns. If seeking to expand your knowledge and skills through networking & social media projects, then join the Prevention Education Team!

 

Students with backgrounds in Public (Speaking, Health, Film, or Policy), Gender & Women’s Studies, or Graphic Design will be greatly welcomed. You must have moderate computer skills and access to the internet while providing both strong written and oral communication to the team.

 

Your voice will be vital in brainstorming presentations, strategy sessions towards school and workplace policies, and social media campaigns. Interns & Volunteers must be a positive influence while being a representative of the YWCA Prevention Education program.

 

We hope you will assist in creating content and policies for our community!
