How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
As a Garden Volunteer, you will assist TRCA Gardening staff in caring for The Meadoway Entrance Garden, a signature garden built in 2024 as a gift from the Garden Club of Toronto to the community.
This beautiful new pollinator garden in Scarborough is filled with native grasses and wildflowers showcasing a diversity of plants endemic to Southern Ontario meadows, strategically arranged to support local wildlife, demonstrate native plant gardening, and a place for the local community to meet and enjoy nature.
This opportunity is also a terrific way to get outdoors, connect with others, and be active!
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Work alongside TRCA staff to maintain gardens, i.e. weeding
- Assist with planting and watering.
- Engage with local community and foster a greater appreciation of gardening with native plants.
- Learn basic plant identification skills.
- Learn to identify invasive weed species and use best management practices to remove them.
What will you need to succeed:
- Gardening and general landscape maintenance experience.
- An interest in gardening, horticulture, and natural heritage.
- Willingness to learn and share knowledge.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically able to walk on uneven terrain, kneel, crouch, or bend for prolonged periods.
- Please be advised that successful volunteers are required to supply and wear work gloves and CSA approved Green triangle safety footwear.
