Volunteer- Golf Course Starter/Marshal

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
The Starter’s primary responsibility is for ensuring total customer satisfaction while playing on the golf course The Starter is responsible for controlling and maintaining the tee time schedule and ensuring pace of play on the course.
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Greet customers, ensure guests tee off at the proper time, assist in maintaining order and pace of play on the course.
- Maintain, ensure accuracy, and submit records of player activity and receive receipts from customers.
- Oversee and maintain starter area, ensuring proper set up and cleanliness of areas.
- Maintain continual communication with golf shop regarding status of play, any factors affecting the smooth operation of play, and to receive directives regarding areas that may need attention.
What will you need to succeed:
- Excellent Customer Service Skills; must be polite, professional, and enthusiastic in their efforts to provide the best golfing experience to our guests.
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Must be a flexible team player capable of shifting jobs/priorities as needed with little or no notice.
- Conflict resolution/de-escalation - Must be able to manage difficult people/situations in a positive and diplomatic manner.
- Must be very safety conscious.

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
As a Kortright Volunteer, you will be assisting Kortright staff with the delivery of community events that celebrate the natural environment through seasonal festivals and events that encourage and empower people to get outside and enjoy nature. Kortright runs numerous events throughout the year including the Maple Syrup Festival, Magical Christmas Forest, interpretive hikes and workshops, and many more.
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of event equipment
- Greet participants, collect registration information, and answer questions regarding the event or program
- Engage event participants in interactive activities at events (training will be provided)
- Adhere to all TRCA safety policies and procedures
What will you need to succeed:
- Passion for and interest in environmental topics including local wildlife, native plants and environmental conservation
- Experience with community events or an interest in working with the public
- Comfortable working in an outdoor setting
- Customer service experience is an asset
- Familiarity with TRCA and its programs is an asset
- Must be at least 14 years old

As a YRNC volunteer you will be assisting staff with the delivery of nature-based programming for families, children and educators, helping to build strong connections with nature from an early age. Events include a Family Adventure Walk in the Forest, a multi-day conference for educators, other professional development and more.
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of event equipment
- Great participants, collect registration information, and answer questions regarding the event or program
- Engage event participants in interactive activities at events

Volunteer – Maple Syrup Festival at Bruce’s Mill

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
Come join a great team and help spread the sweetness of Maple Syrup. Throughout the festival dates, you will have the opportunity to help make this a great experience for our local community and earn volunteer hours by supporting the smooth delivery of an enjoyable visitor experience to the Maple Syrup Festival at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Park. There are weekend shifts and March break shifts available throughout the festival. These shifts take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather! There will be a rest area provided to warm up and have a break.
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Assist with the set-up, take-down, and cleaning of event equipment
- Welcome visitors and manage flow throughout the event space
- Assist staff in facilitating interactive activities at a specific station
- Attend onsite training morning of February 21, 2026
- Adhere to all TRCA safety policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
What will you need to succeed:
- Enjoys being outdoors for extended periods of time in cold weather
- Experience with community events or an interest in providing nature interpretation to the general public
- Strong communication skills
- Able to lift up to 10kg
- Knowledge of maple syrup production and/or local plants and animals an asset
- Comfortable working in a team environment

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
The Citizen Science Volunteer Program provides volunteers with new skills that could be transferrable for future career opportunities in the environmental field or to provide unique and interesting learning activities for anyone who is passionate about the environment and would like to give back. Through the program, volunteers will help make areas more resilient and adaptable, increasing success and population growth. We train and mentor volunteers to assist TRCA staff with a variety of priority projects.
What you will do as a volunteer:
Looking to either improve your tree and shrub identification skills or just to practice your ID skills? Volunteers with this opportunity will help staff maintain new plantings, identify trees and shrubs and collect data and record in a handheld Trimble Unit. The data collected help staff determine what species work well at each site for future restoration opportunities and to monitor the success rate of the material planted. This opportunity also involves some general site and infrastructure maintenance, watering, and is an amazing way to get into nature while focusing on citizen science.
What will you need to succeed:
- Passion for or knowledge of environmental topics, with a focus on local wildlife, native plants, and environmental conservation
- Native plant identification skills is an asset
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physically able to walk on uneven terrain
- Willingness to learn
- Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older
- Experience with fieldwork and/or collecting data is an asset

The spring and fall seasons are very busy with a variety of events and this opportunity is great for those that love interacting with the public. Tasks would include:
- Helping to set up for events
- Helping participants with planting demonstrations
- Assisting participants with planting
- Performing quality checks to ensure proper planting
- Helping with planting trees, shrubs, and wildflowers
- Assisting with watering, mulching, and monitoring
What will you need to succeed:
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physically able to walk on uneven terrain a short distance from parking lot to planting sites.
- Interest in environmental conservation.
- Native plant identification skills is an asset
- Willingness to learn
- Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older
- Experience with fieldwork and/or collecting data is an asset

This opportunity would predominately be working with TRCA staff and members of the Four Colours Drum Circle, an Indigenous group who are the caretakers of the Medicine Wheel Garden located within the Heart Lake Conservation Area in Brampton. Beyond the maintenance of the pollinator plots we are looking to expand the programming held at the MWG and volunteers would be engaged with these activities including the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sept 30) and other events.
What will you need to succeed:
- Passion for or knowledge of environmental topics, with a focus on local wildlife, native plants, and environmental conservation
- Comfortable working outdoors in a team environment
- Excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills
- Native plant identification skills is an asset
