How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

This volunteer opportunity is the ideal opportunity for those that live in the L6T postal code area.

Volunteers will help staff identify native trees and shrubs and invasive species, collect data and record data on handheld Trimble units. The data collected will help determine what species work at the restoration site for future planting opportunities and to monitor the success rates of the planted material. This volunteer opportunity also involves seasonal mulching and weeding of the Eastbourne Park Tiny Forest site and is an amazing way to get into nature while focusing on citizen science.

Volunteers will be provided with equipment but are encouraged to provide their own gloves to ensure proper fit.​

Volunteers are required to attend ONE mandatory training session either on May 10th (10 am - 12pm) or May 27th (10 am - 12 pm).

What you will do as a volunteer: 

• Assist with the removal of invasive species to help native trees and shrubs thrive.
• Monitor previously planted native trees and shrubs to record success rates of plantings.
• Record human interactions.
• Identify and record wildlife observed.
• Monitoring for fence damage and report to TRCA for repairs.

What will you need to succeed:

• Complete mandatory infield training session.
• Comfortable working out outdoors in all weather conditions
• Interest in environmental conservation
• Native plant identification skills is an asset
• Willingness to learn
• Volunteers under the age of 18 requires a parent/guardian to sign off on the waiver in addition to the volunteer.
• Experience with fieldwork and/or collecting data is considered an asset.
