The Meadoway Entrance Garden Volunteer

Volunteer Role Details:

Duration: May 2026 to October 2026 

Volunteer Hours: 2 hrs/month (on Wednesdays) 

Work Location(s): The Meadoway Entrance Garden, Pharmacy Ave, west of Wexford Park in Scarborough

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

As a Garden Volunteer, you will assist TRCA Gardening staff in caring for The Meadoway Entrance Garden, a signature garden built in 2024 as a gift from the Garden Club of Toronto to the community.

This beautiful new pollinator garden in Scarborough is filled with native grasses and wildflowers  showcasing a diversity of plants endemic to Southern Ontario meadows, strategically arranged to support local wildlife, demonstrate native plant gardening, and a place for the local community to meet and enjoy nature.

This opportunity is also a terrific way to get outdoors, connect with others, and be active!

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Work alongside TRCA staff to maintain gardens, i.e. weeding
  • Assist with planting and watering.
  • Engage with local community and foster a greater appreciation of gardening with native plants.
  • Learn basic plant identification skills.
  • Learn to identify invasive weed species and use best management practices to remove them.

What will you need to succeed: 

  • Gardening and general landscape maintenance experience.
  • An interest in gardening, horticulture, and natural heritage. 
  • Willingness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Physically able to walk on uneven terrain, kneel, crouch, or bend for prolonged periods.
  • Please be advised that successful volunteers are required to supply and wear work gloves and CSA approved Green triangle safety footwear.

Available Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer- Heart Lake Road Ecology Monitoring (Brampton)

Volunteer Role Details:

Please note this opportunity takes place only in Brampton, ON and requires attendance at a MANDATORY on-site training session.

The monitoring takes place Monday, Wednesday and Fridays between 9 am - 11 am ONLY.

Duration: April 2026 - November 2026

Volunteer Hours:  2 - 6 hours per week

Work Location(s): Heart Lake Road (section between Sandalwood Parkway East and Countryside Drive).

Division: Restoration and Infrastructure

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

Volunteering for this opportunity, you will play a critical role in collecting data on wildlife sightings, and install nest protectors as required along Heart Lake Road to protect turtle nests.  

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Collect data on collisions/mortality rates of wildlife along Heart Lake Road.
  • Remove, if safe to do so, any deceased turtles and smaller wildlife from Heart Lake Road.
  • Identify and report structural issues with existing wildlife fencing.
  • Search for turtles and nesting activity.
  • Install nest protectors on observed or suspected nesting sites in permitted areas.
  • Record observations using Survey 123 app

What will you need to succeed:

  • Attend a MANATORY orientation session
  • A cellphone
  • Comfortable using apps
  • Amphibian and reptile identification skills helpful, not required

Volunteer- Donnelly East Park Road Ecology Monitoring (Brampton)

Volunteer Role Details:

Please note this opportunity takes place only in Brampton, ON and requires attendance at the MANDATORY training session.

Duration: April 2026 - November 2026

Volunteer Hours:  2 - 6 hours per week

Work Location(s): Donnelly East Park, Brampton

Division: Restoration and Infrastructure

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

Volunteering for this opportunity, you will play a critical role in collecting data on wildlife sightings, recording wildlife vehicle collisions, assessing the potential for wildlife exclusion infrastructure, and installing nest protectors as required to protect turtle nests.
