Volunteer- Day Camp Black Creek Pioneer Village

 

Volunteer Role Details:

Duration: July 2- August 30, 2024

Volunteer Hours: 35 hrs/week (minimum 2 weeks commitment)

Work Location(s): Black Creek Pioneer Village

Number of Vacancies: up to 18

Division: Education & Training

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

Imaginations come to life in the historic surroundings of Black Creek Pioneer Village Day Camp. As a day camp volunteer you will help create summertime memories for children from ages 4 -12. We offer a variety of themes such as Eco Kids, Plants & Animals, Crafty Campers, and History Explorers. This position is ideal for those who love working with children, enjoy the outdoors, want to learn new skills or gain experience in an outdoor museum setting.    

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Engage campers with activities.
  • Assist with set up and clean up of crafts and games.
  • Assist camp counsellors with various camp related activities.
  • Create at least one game or activity for the campers.

What will you need to succeed: 

  • Must be at least 15 years old as of July 2024.
  • Some experience with young children
  • Enjoy the outdoors
  • Enjoy crafts & games
  • [Please be advised that successful volunteers 18 years of age and over may be required to undergo a vulnerable sector screening, with the cost incurred by the volunteer]

Volunteer - Summer Camps at Lake St. George

 

Volunteer Role Details:

Duration: Any week(s) from July 2nd to August 30th, 2024

Volunteer Hours: 35 hrs/week

Work Location(s): Lake St. George Field Centre

Number of Vacancies: 4 per week

Division: Education & Training

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

Attention high school students! Gain experience working with children and get your volunteer hours in an active outdoor setting at Lake St. George's day camps this summer! You will support staff in leading a fun and safe camp experience, creating summertime memories for children from ages 4 -12. We offer a variety of themes such as Wilderness Survival, Backcountry Canoe Adventures, Art in Nature, and Forest Magic. This position is ideal for those who love working with children, enjoy the outdoors, want to learn new skills or gain experience in an outdoor education setting. 

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Assist camp counsellors with various camp related activities
  • Engage campers with activities
  • Assist with set up and clean up of activities
  • Lead some games and activities
  • Support with supervision
  • Make camp fun for kids!
  • Other duties as assigned

What will you need to succeed: 

  • Must be at least 15 years old as of July 2024
  • Must be able to commit to at least one full week
  • Enjoy the outdoors
  • Enjoy crafts & games
  • Enjoy working with children

Division: Education & Training

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

Attention high school students!  Get your volunteer hours and gain leadership experience in a fun and active outdoor setting at Kortright's day camps this summer! You will support staff in leading a fun and safe camp experience, creating summertime memories for children from ages 4 -12. We offer a variety of themes such as Wilderness Survival, Art in Nature, Leadership Adventures and Forest Magic. This position is ideal for those who love working with children, enjoy the outdoors, want to learn new skills or gain experience in an outdoor education setting. 

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Assist with the set-up and clean-up of games and activities
  • Organize and care for educational materials and resources
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive environment
  • Assist with the delivery of nature-based programming
  • Assist with leading guided hikes and ensure participant safety while outdoors
  • Engage campers with activities and make camp fun for kids!
  • Adhere to all TRCA safety policies and procedures
  • Engage with campers and ensure they have fun!

What will you need to succeed: 

  • Must be at least 14 years old as of July 2024
  • Must be able to commit to at least one full week
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor setting
  • Strong communication skills
  • Interested in working with children

Volunteers at Tommy Thompson Park

Volunteer Role Details:

Duration: Any week(s) between July 2nd and August 30th, 2024 

Volunteer Hours: 35 hrs/week (minimum 1 week commitment)

Number of Vacancies: Multiple

Division: Education and Training

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

High school students! Gain leadership experience and community service hours this summer by volunteering at Tommy Thompson Park (TTP) Summer Nature Day Camp. Spend your summer days exploring the meadows, forests, and wetlands of Toronto's urban wilderness.

As a summer camp volunteer, you will be assisting TRCA staff with the delivery of hands-on learning and play for campers age 6-12 that is centered around building a connection with the Land. We offer a variety of themes, such as Birds in the City, Art in Nature, Science on the Spit, and Wildlife Adventures. This position is ideal for those who love working with children, enjoy spending time in nature, and want to learn new skills in an outdoor education setting. 

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Assist with the set up and take down of games and activities
  • Organize and care for educational materials and resources
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive environment
  • Assist with the delivery of nature-based programming
  • Assist with leading guided hikes and ensure participant safety while outdoors
  • Engage campers with activities and make camp fun for kids!
  • Adhere to all TRCA safety policies and procedures

What will you need to succeed:

  • Comfortable working outdoors in diverse weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to take initiative in a team environment
  • Knowledge of or interest in environmental topics, with a focus on local wildlife, native plants, and environmental conservation
  • Experience working with children in a leadership position is an asset
  • Must be 14 years of age or older by the start of their first camp week
  • Successful volunteers aged 18 and above may be required to undergo a vulnerable sector screening, with the cost incurred by the volunteer
