Volunteer- Day Camp at The Village at Black Creek

 

Volunteer Role Details:

Duration: July 6 - Sept 4, 2026

Volunteer Hours: 35 hrs/week (minimum 1 week commitment)

Work Location(s): The Village at Black Creek

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

Imaginations come to life in the historic surroundings of The Village at Black Creek Day Camp. As a day camp volunteer you will help create summertime memories for children from ages 4 -12. We offer a variety of themes such as History Exploration, Plants & Animals, and Culinary Arts. This position is ideal for those who love working with children, enjoy the outdoors, want to learn new skills or gain experience in an outdoor museum setting.

This position is designed for students ages 14 -18.    

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Engage campers with activities.
  • Assist with set up and clean up of crafts and games.
  • Assist camp counsellors with various camp related activities.
  • Create at least one game or activity for the campers.

What will you need to succeed: 

  • Must be at least 14 years old as of July 6 2026
  • Some experience with young children
  • Enjoy the outdoors
  • Enjoy crafts & games
  • Please be advised that successful volunteers 18 years of age and over may be required to undergo a vulnerable sector screening, with the cost incurred by the volunteer

Volunteer- Special Events at The Village Black Creek

An Old Fashioned Christmas at Black Creek Pioneer Village - Life at  Cloverhill

Volunteer Role Details:

Duration: March - December 2026

Volunteer Hours: Variable

Work Location(s): The Village at Black Creek

Number of Vacancies: Multiple 

Division: Education & Training

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

As a Special Event Volunteer, you will be assisting The Village at Black Creek staff with the delivery of a variety of events that celebrate the historic village through seasonal festivals and events that encourage and empower people to get outside and enjoy arts & culture in an unique site. The Village at Black Creek runs numerous events throughout the year including March Break Maple Mystery, Once Upon A Time on Victoria day weekend, Fall Harvest, Halloween and December Holiday day & evening programs.  

What you will do as a volunteer:

 

  • Assist Black Creek staff with activities as part of a variety of special events -
  • Maple Mystery at the Village - March16-20 
  • Once Upon a Time- May 16 & 17
  • Fall Festival - September 19 & 20
  • Halloween in the Village - October 24,25 & 31
  • Santa in the Village - December  12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22 & 23
  • Festive Nights - December 12 &19

What skills you will need as a volunteer:

  • Interest in 19th century history
  • Customer service experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn new information & skills
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Volunteer - The Village at Black Creek (Livestock)

Volunteer Role Details: Livestock Department

Duration: July 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026 

Volunteer Hours: Variable   

Work Location(s): The Village at Black Creek 

Number of Vacancies: 2  

Division: Education & Training  

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team: 

As a volunteer in the Livestock Department at The Village at Black Creek, you will assist with the care of our heritage breed animals and support day-to-day farm activities. While you will contribute to tasks such as seeping, watering, and cleaning enclosures. Volunteers work under staff guidance and may have responsibilities adjusted based on experience, training, and program needs. 

What you will do as a volunteer: 

  • Assist with basic daily animal care routines;
  • Assist with cleaning animal enclosures; and
  • Adhere to all TRCA safety policies and procedures  

What will you need to succeed:  

  • Demonstrates basic-level knowledge of livestock animals and their typical care regimens
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs 
  • Ability to work outdoors 
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills 
  • The ability to follow detailed instructions
