PCYC Mareeba

PCYC Mareeba was established in 2001 and is housed in the original Mareeba Shire Hall building. Our club provides the Mareeba community & neighbouring towns with opportunities to participate in:
- Outside School Hours Care
- Recreational activities
- Youth Development programs
We have passionate and friendly Youth Support Officers (YSO) who can provide support and assistance to young people in regard to:
- Engage in education, training or employment
- Connect with family and community
- Re-engagement with school
- Access other support agencies and specialist services
We provide the community with youth development programs, such as:
- Braking the Cycle: a program that supports young people to complete their mandatory 100hrs of supervised driving to obtain their provisional licence.
- My Space program: to provide youth with additional life skills to encourage them to make better choices, engage well with others, at school and assist to improve their self-confidence and communication skills.
- Community Foundation Skills: a program for people who want to improve their language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills.
Our youth development programs aim to increase self-esteem and develop life skills.
We open our hall for Pulse Café, a nightly drop-in, with snacks, to engage youth in activities, life skills and team building. For youths attending school in Years 6 to Year 12. Check our Facebook page for opening nights.
Volunteer Opportunities
Club Operations

Support the smooth running of our clubs through administration, facilities management or event support. We're looking for volunteers to support the smooth operations of our club and provide an outstanding service to the community.
Roles Available include:
- Administration Assistants
- Facilities and Grounds Maintenance
- Volunteer Co-ordination
- Event Assistants
- Marketing and Social Media Support
Key Tasks may include:
- Administration tasks
- Social Media engagement
- Supporting event logistics at various club events
- Maintaining outdoor or indoor spaces
- Cleaning

Driver Mentor – Braking the Cycle

Braking the Cycle supports learner drivers without access to a supervisor or registered vehicle to complete their logbook hours.
The program provides young people with increased employment opportunities, community connection and driver education. Volunteer driver mentors are matched with participants and provide encouragement while helping young people improve their self-esteem and develop positive road safety attitudes.
Key Tasks include:
- Providing guidance and support during driving sessions i.e. safe driving practices and operational use of vehicles, road rules.
- Completing pre-session preparation i.e. checking participant files to ensure familiarity with progress
- Ensuring that learner drivers are supported to undertake theoretical components of the program
Volunteers for this role are required to:
- Hold a QLD open drivers’ licence for more than 12 months
- Have up-to-date knowledge of QLD road rules
- Have a clear driving record
- Be able to obtain a Blue Card
- Have capacity to support learner drivers and an ability to remain calm under pressure
Youth and Community Programs

PCYC operates a range of programs designed to empower young people while providing them with a safe space to engage with peers and our friendly teams. We offer a range of sports, recreation and cultural activities that support the development of young people and meet the needs of our communities.
Volunteer opportunities are available across a range of programs including:
- After Dark
- Drop-In
- Youth Leadership Team

Volunteer roles available include:
- After Dark and Drop-in Support
- Food Preparation
- Activity Assistants
- Youth Mentors
Key tasks within these might include:
- Helping to facilitate engagement activities which may include:
- Physical activities (sport based dependent on club focus)
- Artistic activities
- Table top games
- Supporting administration and participant sign in procedures
- Providing support to young people on an individual or small group basis
- Food preparation and serving
