Emergency Services Cadets

The PCYC Queensland Emergency Services Cadets program is delivered in partnership with PCYC Queensland and Queensland’s emergency services, thanks to the support of Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire Department.
The program is offered to young people aged 12 to 17 and operates out of an emergency service facility within a community under the leadership and guidance of volunteer adult leaders and mentoring emergency services personnel. Currently there are 22 unit locations operating.
Cadets learn a diverse range of emergency service skills, develop their leadership potential and are encouraged to explore a career pathway or ongoing volunteering with emergency services; as the program has a focus on “building the next generation of emergency service volunteers”.
PCYC Emergency Services Cadets at a glance:
- Cadet programs operate out of sponsoring emergency service facilities.
- Young people are encouraged to consider a career in emergency services or to become an adult volunteer in emergency services.
- Cadets learn a diverse range of emergency response skills from highly experienced personnel.
- It is free to join!

ESC - Gin Gin

The Emergency Services Cadets Gin Gin Unit commenced operations on October 12, 2020 with 26 Cadets and 12 Adult Leaders.
We are proud to have at least one Adult Leader from each Emergency Service in the Gin Gin.
The Gin Gin SES is our Host Facility with Tirroan Rural Fire Brigade as Lead Emergency Service.
We meet each Monday afternoon at the SES facility from 4pm to 6pm, with the Cadets getting a taste of all facets of Emergency Services and gaining skills and knowledge along the way.
In December 2020, the Cadets catered a local public event run by the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre and assisted with the running of the evening. They received excellent feedback from the public and Neighbourhood Staff.
Our aim is to build and promote community resilience through youth development by exploring potential career pathways, ongoing volunteering and leadership development.

ESC - Wolffdene

We are the Wolffdene Unit of the PCYC Emergency Services Cadets, and our goal is to have young people, (12-17 years old) who are interested in an Emergency Services career, (either paid or voluntary), interacting and learning from personnel from a wide variety of services.
Learning basic skills, teamwork, taking care of yourself and others, and a sense of Community Service are what we are all about, while having some fun along the way.
Cadets gives young people who have a drive to help their community, the opportunity to learn from and interact with the real heroes of daily life, as well as finding out about what it takes to have a career in Emergency Services.
Training nights are on a Thursday during the school term, with usually one volunteering opportunity on a weekend every month.
If you are the type of person who likes to help others, then sign up for our next intake and see if PCYC Emergency Services Cadets are for you!

Support a Unit

Support Queensland's future Emergency Services Personnel as a leader with the Emergency Services Cadets program.
Emergency Services Cadets offers young people aged 12 to 17 the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the emergency services sector, and the roles and responsibilities undertaken by various emergency services personnel.
Through your involvement you will support the operations of the unit, helping to facilitate sessions that support cadet learning across a range of emergency service-related skills. You do not need to be former Emergency Services personnel to take on a leader role within a unit - just a willingness to support young people's learning and development.
Please note all PCYC Volunteers are required to obtain a Blue Card prior to starting.
