CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Donation Shed Sorter (Warra)

Do you enjoy practical, hands-on work and staying organised behind the scenes? In this role, you will support AWLQ’s Rehoming Centre by helping process, sort and distribute donated goods that directly support the care of animals on site.

This role involves working in the donation shed to sort and organise items donated by the community. Tasks may include distributing clean linen to different areas of the Rehoming Centre, cutting bedding into appropriate sizes, sorting food, toys and equipment, organising items for transport to other centres, and assisting with rubbish management and disposal. Your work helps ensure teams have the supplies they need to care for animals every day.

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Comfortable with physical tasks, including lifting and manual handling
  • Well organised, reliable and able to work independently
  • Happy working in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-focused and willing to follow procedures
  • Positive, hardworking and supportive of AWLQ’s mission

📍 Location: Warra Rehoming Centre (Bracken Ridge)
💛 Commitment: One consistent weekly shift preferred
🕒 Shifts: Weekday morning or afternoon shifts, Monday to Friday

Driver - Thrift Shops

Do you enjoy being on the road and lending a hand where it is needed most? As a Driver for our Thrift Shops, you will support our retail operations by collecting and transporting donated goods, delivering stock between stores, and helping ensure donations are handled safely and efficiently.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, independence and practical, hands-on work. Tasks may include collecting donations from donors, securing items safely in the truck, delivering stock to Thrift Shops, assisting with stock distribution between stores, and supporting rubbish removal when required. You will also help maintain the cleanliness and safety of the vehicle and follow safe driving and manual handling practices.

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Confident, safe and responsible drivers with a valid licence
  • Comfortable lifting, loading and moving bulky or heavy items
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work independently or as part of a small team
  • Friendly, respectful and professional when interacting with donors and members of the public
  • Willing to follow WHS procedures, road rules and AWLQ policies

📍 Locations: Gold Coast – travel between AWLQ Op Shops, donor collection points and waste facilities
💛 Commitment: Weekly shifts preferred

  • 7.30am - 2.00pm 

TRUCK 

Monday - Thursday: 

  • 7.30am - 2.30pm 

Friday: 

  • 7.30am - 11.30am 

This role plays a vital part in keeping our retail operations running smoothly and ensuring donations reach the right stores. Every collection and delivery helps raise essential funds that support AWLQ’s lifesaving work.

Retail Assistant

Do you enjoy working with people, staying active, and being part of a community-focused environment? As a Retail Assistant Volunteer, you will support the daily operations of AWLQ Thrift Shops by helping deliver excellent customer service, processing donations, and maintaining attractive shop displays.

This hands-on role combines both customer-facing and behind-the-scenes tasks. You may assist customers with enquiries, process sales using cash and EFTPOS systems, replenish stock, sort and price donated items, maintain tidy change rooms and shop areas, and help create a welcoming and organised shopping environment. Every shift helps generate essential funds that directly support animals in our care.

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Friendly, approachable and confident engaging with customers
  • Comfortable handling cash and EFTPOS transactions
  • Happy to assist with lifting, sorting and stock presentation
  • Reliable, positive and able to work as part of a team
  • Willing to follow store procedures and WHS guidelines

📍 Locations: Beenleigh, Burleigh Heads, Coombabah Plaza, Ipswich, Labrador, Nerang, Shelter Road (Coombabah), and Southport.
💛 Commitment: One consistent weekly shift for a minimum of 3 months
