Join us as a Volunteer Education Assistant!
At RSPCA Queensland, we believe in the power of education to inspire kindness and respect towards animals, people, and our environment. As a Volunteer Educator, you'll play a crucial role in spreading this message of empathy and compassion.
What to Expect
- Empowering Presentations: If you're passionate about animal welfare and love engaging with people, this role is perfect for you. You'll have the opportunity to conduct RSPCA visits to schools, early learning centres, and community groups, delivering age-appropriate, standardised presentations on a wide range of animal-related topics.
- Flexible Engagement: In this flexible role you will be responsible for visiting schools and community groups delivering presentations on a wide range of animal-related topics – you tell us when you’re available!

What Skills and Characteristics Do I Need?
- Passion for Animal Welfare: A genuine love for animals and a commitment to promoting their well-being.
- Effective Communication: Good public speaking skills and the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to varying schedules and locations, with shifts primarily on weekdays during school hours. Although we don't always have shifts every-week, this would be suitable for someone who would still like to be involved with the work we do but can't commit to a regular weekly shift.
- Access to Resources: Basic computer skills and access to necessary transportation for travel to different locations.
- Commitment to Policies: Adherence to RSPCA policies and procedures, including obtaining and maintaining a valid blue card.
When Can I Volunteer?
Shifts are typically scheduled between Monday and Friday, fitting around school hours and booking requests – you tell us when you can help, and we will find classes in those windows!
Where Can I Volunteer?
- We are trying to connect with schools and early learning centres all over Queensland and encourage anyone, in any community to volunteer.
- We are particularly looking for volunteers in Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Toowoomba, Mackay, Gympie, Noosa, Bundaberg, Cairns & Townsville.
What Training and Support Do We Offer?
- We provide comprehensive training for each presentation, ensuring you feel confident and prepared for your role. All lessons follow a lesson plan aligned with the national curriculum.
- Our supportive team works with your individual strengths and preferences, offering opportunities for growth and development within the organisation.

Community Crew | Moreton Bay Region
Connect, Care, and Create Change!
We have a number of positive, encouraging, welcoming and supportive Community Crew teams across the state all aiming to engage and inspire local communities to become socially conscious animal communities. This rewarding role would suit someone who enjoys engaging with members of the community whilst promoting and supporting the programs and services that RSPCA Qld provides in the community.
We are currently focusing on community outreach, animal welfare education and support in the Moreton Bay region and we need your help. As this preventative and proactive initiative is a new space for RSPCA QLD, recruiting community support is essential.
RSPCA QLD is 94% community funded! To continue to drive great animal outcomes and proactive community support we rely heavily on community fundraising. The community crew team achieves this by conducting various community fundraising initiatives such as BBQ’s, annual RSPCA Cupcake Day stalls and corporate events. These events will mostly be on the weekends, but there may be some weekday events as well.
Our vision is that all communities are empowered to care for animals and people.
What locations are available?
We are currently focusing on activating Community Crew in the Moreton Bay region (Dakabin being the base shelter).

This volunteer position is flexible and the tasks are dependent on the region you are volunteering in. Activities as part of this role will be on different times and days, or may be a regular shift, depending on the event. Full orientation and training is provided.

Community Crew | Townsville
Connect, Care, and Create Change!
This rewarding role would suit volunteers who enjoy engaging with members of the community and promoting the programs and services that RSPCA Qld provides in the community. You’ll be part of the Community Crew team and participating in a range of different activities, including (but not limited to!) market stalls, events, barbeques, adoption events, and corporate events. These events will mostly be on the weekends, but there may be some weekday events as well.

Tails for Change & Youth 4 Paws Volunteer
Turn Compassion Into Action!
RSPCA Queensland is seeking an adult volunteer to support our Youth Justice Programs, including Youth 4 Paws and Tails for Change. These programs are designed to engage young people involved with the youth justice system and use animal interactions to build empathy, responsibility, and positive life skills.
Youth 4 Paws: Run in partnership with Queensland Police Service, this program works with children known to police to develop empathy towards animals. Programs run once a week, over 4 weeks per group, with 4 participants per group. This is a government-funded program.
Tails for Change: Another youth justice initiative where participants from Detention Centres’ engage with animals and educational activities to promote empathy, personal growth, and responsibility.

What Skills and Characteristics Do I Need?
- Volunteers support RSPCA Education Officers as session supervisors, assisting with program delivery, animal handling, and ensuring the safety and engagement of all participants
- Each session requires two supervising adults. Volunteers must be comfortable in a prison or detention environment.
- Experience working with children, young people, or animals is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to maintain a calm, professional approach in challenging situations
When Can I Volunteer?
- The program runs once a week over 4 weeks.
What Training and Support Do We Offer?
- We will provide full and comprehensive training to all new volunteers.

You’ll also have the chance to assist with handling animals safely and promoting a fun, safe, and educational environment for everyone.
