Be the Fix-It Force That Supports Animal Welfare! 

This rewarding volunteer role would suit applicants that wish to spend their spare time giving back to the local community and who enjoy being outdoors.
The role can vary in the type of work required. Jobs can include anything from general maintenance around the centre to working in the grounds doing mowing, whipper snipping, watering to keep our grounds looking good.

What are the benefits?

  • Gain an understanding of a well-respected charity and be able to share this knowledge with others in order to help animals, enlighten people and change lives.

What skills and characteristics do I need?

  • Gardening, handyperson or maintenance experience. When applying please highlight what part of the role you are interested in doing.
  • Reliable, punctual, organised and professional.
  • Able to work as a team member and individually.
  • Need to be physically fit with the ability to lift 10kg when required.

When can I volunteer?

  • This is a flexible role, Monday – Friday
  • We ask for a weekly commitment of one shift a week.

Gardener & Maintenance | Dakabin

Plant, Prune, and Make a Difference

This rewarding role would suit applicants who are passionate about animals and dedicated to improving their welfare and who would love to spend some of their spare time giving back to the local community.  We’re looking for a volunteer who likes variety in their day and can do anything from weeding, planting, through to regular upkeep of lawns and gardens.

If you have some basic gardening skills, this may be the role for you! 

What are the benefits?

  • Have the satisfaction of using your valuable skills to support the RSPCA and to give back to the community
  • Work in a friendly team of like-minded people who appreciate your contribution
  • The opportunity to show your expertise and gain new skills

What are the tasks?

  • Gardening, planting, weeding, lawn mowing
  • Any general handyman jobs you have the skills to complete!

What skills and characteristics do I need?

  • A passion for animals and animal welfare
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Professional
  • Basic gardening skills
  • Physically fit and able to lift 10kg

When can I volunteer?

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday : 7am-11am or 1pm-4pm
  • We request a minimum commitment of 1 x four hour shift per week for a minimum of 3 months to ensure consistency and continuity with the animals.
  • Orientation and training in relation to animal interaction, training and husbandry will be provided

  • Domestic animals (dogs, cats, pocket pets, or farmyard) at one of our Animal Care Centres
  • Domestic animals recovering from illness or medical procedures at the Domestic Hospital or clinic
  • Wildlife animals recovering or rehabilitating in preparation for release to the wild, or to a wildlife carer for further rehabilitation
  • Gardening & Maintenance
  • Administration Support and Department roles

Volunteer Applications – Important Information - Read before applying

  • Due to some staffing gaps we will ceasing all weekend orientations. We understand how this may affect your ability to begin volunteering and apologise that we can not open weekends up at this stage.
  • At present, we are unable to accommodate volunteers who require the support of a support worker due to current program capacity.
  • To ensure a safe and supported experience for all, applicants must be able to perform their volunteer role independently. Applications that do not meet this requirement, or fail to disclose the need for support, will not be accepted at this time.
  • Please note we are unable to provide work experience or offer any student placements (exceptions being placements organised through university or tertiary programs).
